I’ve enjoyed this little piece of the arc with the board game I made up. Thanks to everyone who gave their thoughts and feedback on it. It’s a fun idea. Some of you suggested I work on making it a[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
If Treasure of Dragon Mountain were a real game, I think the annoyance factor of getting shaken off the mountain every so often would need a lot of balance tweaking to prevent, well, exactly the scenario Theo just pulled here (effectively hard-resetting the whole session). Defensive cards like the Lasso are good, but player mobility and speed of ascension up the mountain would need to be factored around the periodic shaking. Not going anywhere with this, just a thought.
Good job, all y’all who called the Scorpion Maneuver. :3
There is no in-game mechanic that says "You punch the goat in the face", but when you successfully win a Monster Space there's no harm in narrating the victory a bit.
I put the description of the black spaces in the comic for the benefit of archive bingers who may miss or not read the extra commentary and commentaries.
To continue off Wednesday's commentary, the Dragon at the top is basically an egg timer attached to a small motor. Every twenty minutes or so it Awakens and shakes the mountain. If your player token falls over you can set it back up where it lays, even if it moved you up a space. But if it falls off the mountain entirely, you go back to Start. The black squares are magnetic and hold your player token in place during Awakenings. There are cards that positively and negatively alter the time between Awakenings, as well as Tool and Trap cards that can save you from falling off the mountain, which Selkie has pointed out here. Plus Amanda still has one Lasso and a Bear Trap...
Thank you everyone for all the game suggestions in the previous strip’s comments. I didn’t expect the previous strip to generate such a large amount of tips and ideas for card and board games. I’m really intrigued by some of[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I basically chose to make up a board game for this strip that called to mind some of the board games from my childhood with slightly over-blown design gimmicks. The Treasure of Dragon Mountain is won by being the first player to climb to the top of the mountain, defeating Monsters Hazards and Traps along the way. The six player tokens each have an advantage against one a disadvantage against a second and are neutral with the third, so climbing to the top is a lot of luck with a little bit of trickery in applying the Tool cards everyone gets to hold. The Dragon at the top is also... well I'll discuss that on Friday. >:D
May as well get the competition urge out. Fanart Update! I got this drawing of Keisha living her jazz ballerina dreams from Victoria: Thank you Victoria!
My family has never completed a game of Monopoly. We all reach the two hour mark and call whoever has the most properties the winner.
In the initial draft of this arc Amanda was putting up the sweet and innocent act to the adults faces while being a royal shit to Selkie in secret. I chose not to pursue that because I don't want to create a narrative where Amanda is portrayed as some master manipulator or prescient mastermind. She's not above using the batted-eyelashes don't get me wrong, but I feel a route like that leans a bit too one-dimensional.
