Lineart on this one is complete crap because my scanner isn’t working, so I had to take a picture of the drawn page with my cell phone. It makes a compelling argument for going back to computer-inking, I tell you[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
An early draft of panel 4 was a dream sequence bit I cut out from a much earlier point in the comic. In that original draft, Plo Quar (her mother) shifted to a 1930s cartoon style complete with big white gloves and noodle-arms, gave Selkie a left-handed salute while saying, "So long, Screwy! See ya in Saint Louie!" before jet rocket flames erupted from her feet and she blasted off into the dreamscape's stratosphere. It's a really fun idea, but I think a simpler rendering distracts less from what the imagery suggests about Selkie's inner thoughts.
Andi’s been busy, albiet mostly off-camera. I got to thinking, with assistance from reader feedback, that since I am more and more frequently posting “beta” versions of the strips for short periods before finalizing them, and at times the reader[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Andi's tattoo list now includes hearts and clovers. I think maybe horseshoes or blue moons should be next. And to get that Gilgamesh tattoo completed.
Amanda has yet to make the Sparkly Eyes work on Lillian. – – – – – If you don’t already read Jade Griffin and Trevor Black’s webcomic Shards, today is a great day to start! I’ve been informed that Selkie[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I got the idea for Hamud while watching news footage of the revolution and riots in Egypt this past winter, following the regime change. I don't mean to suggest this as his in-story origin, but it is his real-world inspiration. If that makes sense. Lillian's qi pao was designed after a few google searches. I love asymmetrical clothing designs, and I wanted something different from the kimonos she wore as the last two outfits we saw.
I am happy to announce the return of the No-Longer-Quite-So-Secret Director Commentary! I think the Transcript widget will work better for allowing the extra comments without creating some of the frustrations the mouseovers were giving people. Just click anywhere in[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I tried to pay attention to lighting and shading direction in this one, with two light sources (a hallway light and the window). I'm so used to shading everything on the "Audience Left" for some reason. XD The policeman is named Officer Martin. I decided to name him after a background/cameo character from Rent. XD I'll talk more about the little boy on the next update.
Todd doesn’t know about Selkie’s other language yet since he hasn’t had a chance to read the care file in detail. Also, for those that may have missed it, I had a bonus update on Saturday that had some information[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…

Lillian is some kind of shoe ninja, I dunno where she got those so fast. >_> Just a friendly heads up, come by on Saturday for a bonus Sketch Day update. 😀

Shoes designed for human feet aren’t very comfortable for Selkie’s species. – – – – – Fan Art update time! The Dragon Girl sent this cute picture the other day: Thank you for the adorableness. ^^
