She just went all quiet and distant when I first mentioned it, and now she frowns the moment she hears about it. You really think she doesn’t like the topic?
While here, biracial or multiracial children are fairly common, I get the impression that reproduction between the clans is not done. It might not be specifically forbidden, but they just don’t do it.
So Bohn Bohn might have grown up thinking she was the only one. And then here she sees another. The coloring isn’t right for the blue clan (can you tell that I don’t remember the names of the clans?) but she is obviously not a member of the green clan and certainly not white. She must be two clans too! Cool!! I’m not the only one! There’s another one of me out there!!!
Bohn Bohn is two clans because her parents love each other very much, and her parents are together. She might be a bit sheltered, and it might not have occurred to her that another two clans kid doesn’t have the same experience. Even with Selkie… not having any Sarnothi adults around with her in the park. That’s assuming both parents are her parents and the wife is her mother (could be her stepmother?) Anyway I don’t think that means she’s not bright.
To add onto this, it sounds like Bohn Bohn’s experience with being two clans is wholly positive, and since she didn’t know any others prior to meeting Selkie, she had previously had no reason to believe that it could be anything other than a good thing, as the positivity was likely part of the schema she had in her mind about being two clans. It’s likely that she just needs some information (not like details or anything, but the simple fact that some people’s situations are very different from her own even if they may seem similar on the surface) and time to update her schema for her to better understand.
I didn’t get the impresion that it was wholly positive. The entire fact that she’s so excited to meet another suggests that she’s felt marginalized over it.
But she would assume that Selkie would be similarly eager to meet someone else “like her”, overlooking that (A) the entire question of Selkie biological parentage is awkward (there’s a REASON she’s adopted), and (B) Selkie has picked up human ideas about how it’s wrong to judge people by their clan(s), regardless.
To be fair, kids can feel marginalized over just about anything they feel makes them ‘different’, from hair type to glasses to freckles to being slightly taller than their friends, even if nobody actually treats them differently over it.
But we’re talking about Bohn Bohn’s behavior here, and that’s going to depend on how she feels, regardless of whether anyone else agrees it makes sense for her to feel that way.
I have a feeling Todd is pulling Selkie aside in order to find what it was that Bohn Bohn said that upset her since he doesn’t have a strong grasp of Tensei.

Don’t worry Selkie. I don’t think you were risking a misunderstanding this time.
Oh my goodness, Panel 2! That is some face, Selkie! Poor kiddo. XD
Bohn Bohn seems sweet, but maybe not the brightest.

My guess is she’s just excited to meet someone who may be like her, Selkie is still only nine years old and Bohn Bohn looks to be a similar age.
Ehhh… I would say she is just intensely curious and misses cues because of that… like most young children.

Oh, I meant to reply to Alpo’s comment, oops.

True. So can adults, for that matter.
