She said she’s a child of two clans and a (slightly different) Jin’Sorai, so it appears her dad must be Jin’Sorai too. Tren may be and probably is full sibling, though, who just inherited her mom’s clan while Bohn Bohn got her dad’s.
Bohn Bohn and Selkie are what you get when the two clans blend, though–and they look very similar. Tren looks pure Sar’Teri. Realistically, of course, the children of two very different looking parents can have the full range of features from fully looking like one parent to fully looking like one of the other, but from what Bohn Bohn is saying, Selkie is the first other mixed-clan kid she’s met.
That said, technically being step- or half-sibs doesn’t matter much to kids who were raised the same way in the same house by the same parents. These two read like full siblings to me, though of course we can’t know until Dave tells us!
I don’t think we really know enough about Sarnothi genetics and what Sarnothi of multiple clans vs just one clan tend to look like. Selkie and Bohn Bohn are the only two confirmed cases where we’re certain of whether a specific person has parents of different clans, Pohl’s children may be the only confirmed instances of confirmed same-clan parents unless I’m forgetting something, and Selkie was even called a “textbook Jin’Sorai” by Pohl on page 401, so there’s probably still some puzzle pieces missing from our overall understanding.
Also, Bohn Bohn and Tren very well may not be biological siblings with the same two biological parents, and even if they are, that may not be their biological mom or even a close relative at all. Nontraditional family structures are this story’s entire foundation after all.
I didn’t really notice it until now, but if you look at all the other Jin’Sorai we’ve seen including Plo Quar, they have more of a pinkish/warmer tint to their skin. Selkie and Bohn Bohn have a bluer/cooler tint. Presumably, that cooler tint is from their Sar’Teri side since they generally have dark green skin.
I’m wondering what their adult markings will look like when they come in, if they’ll be more Jin’Sorai with the freckles and eye shading, or be a mix of that and the Sar’Teri blocky lines.
Sarnothi seem to have a polytheistic religion, so they don’t have the idea of a singular omnipotent deity who stands above everything. However, Selkie has lived among humans long enough to have picked up the idea, at least for the sake of figures of speech.
It’s unclear what her, or for that matter Todd’s, actual religious beliefs are, or how seriously they feel about them, although it’s worth noting that the wedding from a few storylines ago took place at a church.
Such treacherous treachery, but we can’t have a broken Bohn Bohn.
I see… Step sibling situation… Perhaps with a hint of racism.

Nah, Bohn Bohn is two clans, one parent is Sar’Teri, the other is Jin’Sorai. This would be her full brother just being a snitch as siblings often are.

Tren is much darker than mom though, it’s possible he’s also half-clan but trended toward the opposite direction

Tren is LOYAL. Just not to you.
Bohn Bohn Be’trien
Bon bon berries?
Where did you get berries? I looked it up on Google Translate.Bé’triển is Baby (child?) Development in Vietnamese.
I don’t get it. Doesn’t Selkie look like her mum? What about her makes her look mixed race?

i bet the mom’s gonna know right away that selkie’s two clans.
guess who just realised gien has the same skin color as selkie
He does look more blue in a couple of comics, and so does Plo Quar. In the ones with Selkie they are definitely more pink than she is.

Ah, the “I don’t understand what it is, therefore you’re not allowed to do it” style of parenting.
She may just be worried Bohn Bohn might get hurt, being less buoyant than she’s used to.
Huh, Bohn Bohn and Tren’s mom is really short.
Tren *is* a traitor. True facts. What the heck, bro? It’s like you want her to survive to adulthood or something.
Somebody needs to teach Tren that snitches get stitches.
The Goal is to stop Bohn Bohn from needing stitches.
Oh no, the ultimate doom knell – the Full-Naming
I take it from the dialog outside the more-and-less-than signs that Selkie uses the human word for “God” here…which raises a few possibilities.
