I’m not a big fan of this page, would even go so far as to say I hate it, but after having to restart it from scratch twice due to PC issues, plus the whole visual concept running into roadblocks and not coming out how I envisioned it, scrapping and redoing layout several times, I’m just… out of spoons to keep beating my head against this one. I don’t need to get behinder than I already am so… out you go.

Hooooooo boy. Poor kid is gonna have some difficult questions after this.
Selkie.exe has stopped working. System rebooting…
Wait… Are we seeing pieces clicking?
I honestly like this page. I feel it really captures what it’s like to have a sudden realization that shakes up what you thought you knew.
I love the faces and the text. I’m not so sure about the background and the composition. It gets the point across really well–you feel what Selkie is feeling and know what she’s thinking with *remarkable* immediacy, which is the first goal of any page–but it’s kind of… ugly, as an overall art piece. It gets the job done, but I do think we’ve seen better.
I personally think it’d be great if it was like the one where Amanda has Big Feelings during the Xmas visit and you see her face plus the rainbow cacophony to show the multiple feelings conflicting

This is the strip to which I’m referring
That one works really well, too! I do like how this page is one panel, though. It gives this one moment of understanding and emotion the full concentration and long pause that it deserves.
Remember you’re still in a tree, Selkie. Having a crisis is not safe up there.
I mean, this is complicated even before the “OMG, mom nearly killed dad and he lost an arm’ part…
So…remember Amanda’s reaction when she found out who her father was?
…Yeaah…deja vu.
this does portray the visual representation of an existential crisis rather well
I’mma be honest, i can see it not portraying is Selkie was having that particular moment, but for Todd, i think this page hit a home run.
Claim to be half-human Selkie.
C’mon. Do it. It’ll be so funny long-term.
She may not even have to if she just refrains from answering until Bohn Bohn sees her with Todd.
It would, indeed, prompt some hilarity
Oh yeah
It’s all coming together
but why are Plo Quar’s eyes yellow they’ve been green before
also love the reference
😀 they have been fixed yippee
I love this page lol. I feel like you perfectly captured the chaos in Selkie’s mind
I take it Sarnothi society is very segregated, in that cross-clan matings are not “supposed” to happen.
And that right there is the “Holy Crap” moment.
I’m reading back through the archives. 984, after Todd is attacked by Pants, Scar uses Resonance to give him an air bubble when his scuba mask busts open. Immediately after this, Selkie gets access to Resonance.
Is this because her father used it, and hers was reacting to it? Or the stress, probably. But it’s suspicious timing.
It’s hilarious that both in this comic and in the Girl Genius comic of today, someone finally figured out the mystery of who her father is.
