TODD: The “made her sick” thing is a concern of mine, actually.
TODD: Hell, you should have seen the bathoom the other day.
AMANDA: THANKS.
THEN: That’s what we’re all here for. To learn how to accomodate and stabilize this situation.
SELKIE: Aren’ts you trying to learns Echo stuff too, Mister Then?
SELKIE: I remember you sayings that when you came by because I brokes my first hairclip.
THEN: Well! You pay more attention than I thought you did.
SELKIE: You cans just say I’m amazing. It’s okay.

Not the first time Then's wished he could have read ahead in the script.
Uh oh. Selkie and Then together teaming up might well take over the world, lol
Didn’t exactly answer her question, did he?
Hey Dave, I have a question about some very very very minor characters that we’re likely to never see in the comic.
I was curious how the fishermen who fished up poor Behn are doing with the revelation of the Sarnothi. Are they upset? Do they even care? Were they relocated by the government in fear of possible reprisals from embittered Sarnothi refugees?
I now want to know this too
Ditto; also curious! How did that go down?
I hadn’t thought of it until now but … yikes! Those “very very very minor characters” are directly responsible for everything in this story. Their actions are what ultimately caused Selkie to end up in a human orphanage and everything else follows from that plot point.
All of these (real time) years later, I’m still low-key traumatized by that point in the story where those fishermen “processed” Behn. I have hoped ever since that Dave wasn’t aware of the details of what “processing” a catch means because that still actively horrifies me.
Sorry, but I am aware of what the term processing means in that context. 🙁
As far as what happened to the fisherman, that’s actually an entire arc of backstory I chose not to utilize due to the whole thing looking like it was going to grow too dark.
The excised story was basically a revenge hit. Friends and family of Behn (note, not his wife or kids) tracked the fisherman down and dragged them from their houses in the night.
I no longer consider this canon, but I also do not at this time have a prepared canon for the fisherman. In light of how things have progressed in the story since that point however, identity protection and heavy observation feels the most likely response
I’m glad you chose not to pursue that story arc, although considering the justified anger of the Sarnothi at the time, it would certainly have been plausible. I can’t muster any sympathy for them, especially knowing that you phrased your description of their actions deliberately.
I suspect that “identity protection and heavy observation” has caused them to quit their profession and move to a landlocked state in the middle of the country.
Honestly if it was me, and I fished up what would basically be a cryptid? I’d move to Arizona.
LOL I’m not sure that would be any better. 😉 You’re just trading off cryptids for graboids.
I appreciate the response and your humoring my shower thought of the day! Echoing Tarnagh’s sentiments regarding the plausibility. The world can be a rather grim place, but it doesn’t mean your story has to encompass all of the harsh realities of the world. Thanks again for addressing it!
Todd, don’t swear in front of the gradeschoolers! Tsk.
I kinda have a related question Dave: will we ever hear what happened to benny’s sibling? I don’t recall that being mentioned but trying to be optimistic and hope she’s still around SOMEWHERE
Am I the only one hearing Fatboy Slim?
