AVERY: Remembering that I am also a laymen at these matters myself, my best observation would be that Selkie simply overloaded the device, due to her inexperience.
SELKIE: I'm sorry! I didn't means to!
AVERY: I know. It's okay. You're still learning.
THEN: Ugh. I am going to get REAMED for this from the Cyborg.
AMANDA: CYBORG?!
SELKIE: Oh, I knows him. He's not a robot, he just has a fakes arm and talks funny.
AMANDA: Why's his arm fake?
SELKIE: He foughts my mom. She BLEW IT UP.
ANDI: I picked a terrible day to have an anxiety problem.
SELKIE: And then she hecked up his neck!
AMANDA: Gross! More!

HEK in the NEK
He blowed up real good
With the day Andi’s having, I hope she doesn’t have any heart problems. If she didn’t before, she probably will now.
I really appreciate “Gross! More!”
Indeed.
Why do people keep mixing up cyborgs with robots?
Why would you think Scar is a robot? Scar is the definition of a cyborg.
@Diane See Selkie’s dialog: “He’s not a robot, he just has a fake arm”
She’s a KID. Also, a lot of cartoons don’t really care about the difference, so most kids wouldn’t likely know the difference.
Back in my day cartoons knew the difference! 😳
People mix up cyborgs and robots because of Star Trek’s Borg. These are built by adding cybernetic (machine) parts to biological bodies, so technically they are cyborgs, but the result is a being with the machine parts entirely in control: each being is remote-controlled by an artificial intelligence hive mind. The original biological organisms have no input on decisions and serve only as a cheaper-than-mass-production chassis for what are functionally robots.
Do I detect a sub-tile (under the floor) reference to Dilbert in the ultimate panel?
I didn’t get that, but I did think that was a definite Airplane reference.
Just so great to see the kids unselfconsciously using minced profanity because that’s what they typically hear.
“She hecked up his neck.”
To be fair, Andi, I doubt there’s a good day to have anxiety issues.
Pretty sure that once Scar finds out it was Selkie that fried it, he won’t be as mad as Then is currently thinking. At least not about the loss of the tech.
Willing to bet he’ll be quite upset at learning that Then was basically experimenting with his daughter, though.
Have we seen any evidence that Scar realizes Selkie may be his daughter? Beyond wanting to meet her?

He wants to make right by Selkie’s mother and, while not said out right, very clearly Selkie. Todd was able to connect the dots on what he was thinking as well in the following link.

While my other comment is under moderation (as I forgot two links is a big no no) I offer this conversation between Gien and Scar when Selkie first came. I recommend reading this and the next comic for the full convo. And for context while it awaits approval: Scar implements a couple of times he’s Selkie’s father, at least, to his knowledge. What happened during the time that lead to him becoming Cyborg made him think he’s likely the father, but the only person that can agree to that without a test is MIA (her mom).

I grant thee the sigil of approval

Bless you, Sir Dave. ♥
Typo: “laymen” (plural) should be “layman” (singular). Avery is a layman.

She’s having a mommy moment! Once heck of a job not that dad’s have it easier unless they’re oblivious!
I love Andi’s reactions in this whole arc. They are realistic, normal, and hilarious!
Her reactions are so well done by Dave, that I feel sorrow at her loss of innocence. It’s hard enough admitting to your kid you made a big mistake. My Dad never did.
I feel like buying Andi a beer at this point.
(I mean, if that is her poison)
Something else I’m noticing: Selkie seems to have made peace in her mind about Scar. I notice that she’s not portraying him as a “bad guy” so much as she’s just … telling Amanda what happened to cause him to become “The Cyborg.” She doesn’t seem to be expressing any anger about him. This is potentially a good thing?
And a Better Thing is that the two of them AREN’T Fighting anymore!
… at the moment.
… shhhh! Don’t let them hear you! LOL
That was a very indirect and possibly clumsy reference to “Are You Being Served”.
Does Andy have a streak in her hair, or is it just really shiny?
Streak of pale violet-silver
I think you literally just animated every medical appointment with my children in one page. I need to buy this print.
