How else do they know when kids are getting up to something in class? Psychic network is the only answer.

ANDI: Are you sure about this "screeching" thing?
AMANDA: Mom...
AMANDA: Can we just go home, please? I really don't feel good.
ANDI. Sure, kiddo. Of course. Todd, just text me what I need to know, okay?
TODD (VO): Sure thing. You got it.
ANDI: Right... see ya.
TODD (quietly): Damn. Saved by the bell.
[A PANEL FULL OF PEOPLE STANDING AROUND STARING]
JESSIE: Heeeeeeey! Heard you weren't feeling good! Thought I'd... see how that was?
AMANDA: How did YOU hear that?
JESSIE: Uhhh... TEACHER PSYCHIC NETWORK?!
AMANDA: Mom...

Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
I feel like Todd is really screwing up here in not telling Andi the truth about what’s going on about Amanda. Andi has a right to know she is Amanda’s mom and by not telling her and lying to her Todd is no better than when she lied about Amanda being dead.
He could have just sent the girls to the room and just said, “Look something’s going on with Amanda and we fixed it for now but I want you to come by my place tomorrow and meet a person named agent Brown, he will tell you everything.” But he lied to her and is keeping vital medical information from her which is illegal and makes Todd look like an irresponsible jackass.
“Todd is no better than when she lied about Amanda being dead.”
Hard disagree. These situations aren’t even remotely similar in their impact, timing, or purpose.
Amanda’s exhibition of echo powers is as far as we know unprecedented, was completely unexpected by the civilians involved, and likely has massive repercussions on a global scale. Humans with super powers is the sort of thing that could cause wars. You don’t just go blabbing about that, particularly as doing so might (probably) be highly illegal anyway. There will be opportunities in the future once its been approved up the relevant chain of command to inform Andi in more detail of what’s going on. Its not Todd’s decision alone to make.
In contrast, Andi’s lie was personal, had exactly zero national security/international incident potential, wasn’t required by law, was premeditated and the situation entirely predictable by all parties involved (pregnancy not being a new thing and all).
Totally different scenarios.
Yeah, the two lies aren’t remotely comparable. “I threw your child into a traumatizing orphanage and made you think she was dead” vs. “I need to consult some government officials before being open about a frankly world-shaking revelation about this kid we both love and support”? Even Amanda doesn’t seem to want her mom to know.
I do think that Andi ought to be evaluated to see if it’s possible for her to be told the truth sooner rather than later. But that’s mostly what the guys in suits should be doing, not Todd and probably not even Pohl.
If Pohl thinks it’s not immediately harmful to Amanda, and no immediate medical decisions need to be made, then it seems fairly reasonable to delay the revelation at least a little bit, wherein to figure out the larger ramifications of the revelation and whether there might need to be some bigger issues brought into play (e.g. does Andi need to get a big talk from the guys in suits? do they need to start surveilling the family? does Amanda get bodyguards?).
Also, I’m a bit torn because while Amanda seems young for this line of logic, I think she should have some amount of say in whether a secret about her gets told to a mom known for freaking out (and for abandoning her children when they’re an inconvenience — I know it’s not that simple, but Amanda still has that kind of anxiety in her, and it’s not unjustified).
I don’t like lying to Andi about it either, but… well, it’s one of those secrets that seem important to keep, and after Andi wouldn’t even listen to Amanda asking her not to take the barrette, I can understand not trusting her with something like this.
It’s not a good idea to tell her exactly what happened because of the whole situation with Sarnothi culture and Echoes and magic eye beams.
You can’t just exposition dump all of that to someone and not expect them to freak out. You ease them into it. Especially after they were already freaking out that their kid was ‘sick’.
Amanda isn’t hurting right now, what she’s going through is not deadly, and can be managed for the moment.
I feel like it’s hard to tell where one kind of illegal ends and another begins when the medical information is classified. Hopefully the next thing Todd does is call Agent Brown and set up a meeting with Andi.
They never told ME about the teacher psychic network..
It works best if you are psychic. Otherwise you have to drop eaves or actually talk to other teachers.
Possibly they told everyone about it psychically!
A colleague of mine enters every classroom while thinking “Death to all psychics” in a Darth Vader voice. He tells me no-one has ducked yet…
I think most Psions ignore most mental traffic. And stick in network. … I am not sure they don’t like me testing.
In my homeland we have a word that describes people like Jessie.
Nebby.
She needs to learn to mind her own flipping business.
Honestly, Jessie’s approach is really suboptimal here. This is not a great way to introduce Mom’s new “friend” to Amanda. I think k it would have been better to wait it out in the hall or something. Now she’s also privy to information information Amanda might not want shared.
I think not telling her is extremely short sighted the child has a big mouth and may accidentally start glowing green, this undercuts the trust of someone all involved parties will have to work with in the future, the child will crack if Andi presses the issue.
Andi needs to be detained for debriefing.
