Lineart on this one is complete crap because my scanner isn’t working, so I had to take a picture of the drawn page with my cell phone. It makes a compelling argument for going back to computer-inking, I tell you[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
An early draft of panel 4 was a dream sequence bit I cut out from a much earlier point in the comic. In that original draft, Plo Quar (her mother) shifted to a 1930s cartoon style complete with big white gloves and noodle-arms, gave Selkie a left-handed salute while saying, "So long, Screwy! See ya in Saint Louie!" before jet rocket flames erupted from her feet and she blasted off into the dreamscape's stratosphere. It's a really fun idea, but I think a simpler rendering distracts less from what the imagery suggests about Selkie's inner thoughts.
I locked myself out of the website due to a caps lock fail… XD Thankfully I got back in quicker than I expected too. Comic is lineart for now though because I’m entertaining guests and don’t have the coloring done.[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Just a innocent game of chase your friend down and hit them.
Flats for now, shading in a bit. Got myself sidetracked looking into merch store options. Set up a couple placeholder/demo items on Cafepress, Society6 and Zazzle; still making a decision on who to use. -SHADING DONE-
I was originally going to put a little "editors note" narrator-box mentioning that Lynni is in a different class from the rest of the kids, only to remember that Wu and Sandy are ALSO not in Selkie George and Giselle's class. So, blam, Lynni's with them. So is Ricky because why not.
As long time readers will attest, I sometimes like to change things up art-wise. This time around, I am trying a “sample” first instead of a whole comic. I have been thinking of trying ways to loosen up my outlines.[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
If this were a war movie, dramatic music would be playing right now.
For new readers, or those who may need a refresher, Selkie’s shoes are custom built for her unique feet. Her old shoes were generic tennis shoes built for human proportions.
This is mostly how I recall dodgeball games: a volley of cannon fire.
They have the “dodge” part of the game down nicely. – – – – – I got some fan art sketches in this morning I wanna share, courtesy of Mike L: Thanks Mike!
I had written a "good to see you" line for George before I remembered that seeing Sandy and Wu isn't a reunion meeting for him. Doh. XD
Jade and Trevor, I borrowed Miss Muffet a second time for an exit scene, hope that’s alright. And I’m sorry for the horrible tuffet joke. XD Friendly Heads Up! There will be a Sketch Saturday bonus update this week. In[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I was going to have the scene-change in the last panel as a smooth gradient, but I think the abrupt difference is more appropriately dream-like. Or it is for my dreams anyway.
-EDIT- Comic had a little downtime due to exceeding my bandwidth allotment. Fixed now, sorry for that! I apologize to those of you who check the comic right at the crack of midnight CST, had a late start on finishing[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I was tempted to throw in a Girl Genius reference, what with the talking mad scientist castle and all, but it felt a bit forced.
