So, I have to confess something to everyone. I had intended to do a Saturday Sketch day last Saturday, but… I forgot! So, because of my neglect and procrastination, we will have the first ever… Sketch Wednesday! Featured are pencils from a side-arc that I decided to cut out. More details on Wednesday. ๐
I also have more Fan Art that I got over the weekend! Courtesy of Carol:
Playdate! ๐ Thanks Carol!
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
What happened to Selkie’s PJ’s?
She’s too tired to invoke the magically-appearing privacy screen. XD
Too much trouble to wrestle a sleepy child into PJs. Tonight she can sleep in her dress.
If you ever have a kid that tired you too would rather put him in to bed than having to put PJยดs, its easier, faster and much more comfortable ๐
Awwwe selkies so cute. She reminds me of my little sisters
Double dose of adorable!
Heh:) Dave, yer fan art is up! Also, who is the character in the fan art next to Selkie?
That’s Carols own character. I believe the name was Damianna.
Aww, the queen of the fishies. How adorable. Also: Adorable playdate with a satyr. Selkie’s just adorable no matter what you do.
Um… that’s not a satyr, satyrs are all male. Besides with a name like Damianna and the little sparks of fire around her I would say it’s actually a little demonette.
Hmmm…. maybe the dream is a partial recount of what really happened.
Oh no. Is she (semiconsciously) afraid that this whole day with Todd was a dream? Poor kid.
“I’ve had this dream before…” ๐ Heartbreaking. Poor Selkie.
Awwwwww. that so sweet and sad at the same time. I can see her waking up in the morning and going to his room to make sure he’s still there.
Cute cute cute. And now we’re almost to the part I’ve been waiting for. The grown ups are going to talk about life altering things. Whoot.
Oh! I like the play date. Very nice. Selkie fighting the losing battle to stay awake and falling into the arms of Morpheus! Love it.
So, I’m not the only one who sometimes imagines singing Disney(R) creatures or other animals as moving (possibly singing) skeletons? I feel so relieved!
It’s hard to come up with a comment for this one…except, that was me last night with my daughter, and she dreams about unicorns at school. Poignant, heartwrenching, and just a little funny. Are you sure you’re not a parent, Dave? Because you write like one.
Also…you are going to have to design a plushie of Selkie so we can hug her when the comic decrees that it is hug time. My computer screen is not so easy to hug. ๐
Todd’s expression in panel 3 is eloquent; so much meaning in one, superficially simple image. Wonderful storytelling.
Can’t wait to see Selkie when she wakes up and realizes the “dream” is only just beginning…
I love Todd’s face in Panel 3… (never commented before but had to say that. been reading since the beginning…)
I can’t decide if that’s completely adorable or horribly sad. I’m leaning towards adorable, if only because Selkie isn’t dreaming.
So cute!!! Poor Selkie though, afraid that this is all a dream. (I have an urge to stroke her hair now…)
The Sketch Wednesday sounds exciting. :3
It’s rare that I take time to comment on webcomics (even if I check them constantly) but I can’t avoid it this time. Not only would I have adopted this adorable little girl I would have trouble not kidnapping her from Todd. I know that sounds worrying but that is just how cute this page made her.
Also, that’s a pretty bizarre dream though I’m pretty sure some of my dreams from ages 8-15 have it beaten. ^_^
“You’ll go to sleep, and when you wake up, you’ll be in a warm, safe place.”
Sorry, I don’t know what came over me. Hearbreaking, heartwarming, heartstring-pulling. Keep it up, Dave, this is one of my new favorites.
The character’s name is Damiana and she’s from my radio drama/podcast. She’s the daughter of the god Pan and like Selkie has had a rough go of things for her differences. I think they would get along though.
what is your podcast called? It sounds cool! And the fanart is lovely.
My podcast is called The City of Wymyn. You can find the link to it on my website!
Dave, how I wish you could update every day. I just want more. Now. Right now. Maybe I should force myself to not read for three to six months or so, so when I come back I can have an adequate amount of story to read all at once. Naaaah, that’s never going to happen…
I feel the same way after an archive binge on a long-running webcomic serial. ๐
so that is a ‘yes you’ll start posting everyday of the week’ right?
Well Gevaisa … if you get to jonesing for more Selkie too bad – you can always take another trip through the archives. ๐
(Works for me …)
What a good idea! I fear, though that by the 18th or 20th reread, I might have it memorized, and then what would I do?
Why, recite it to anyone and everyone who will listen, of course. XD
Dawww! Sleepy Selkie is the most adorable ever.
And her fear of waking up from this is the most heartbreaking ever.
I love your comic. ๐ Keep up the great work! I read about 15 webcomics, this is one of the good ones.
I just realized.
Todd’s parents must have seen exactly this sort of thing before – the newly-adopted child afraid to believe that this is real.
Gotta say Dave, this is an EXCELLENT page! Coupled with the very cool photo-manip fan-art, it was a huge double-dose of “d’aaaaaawwww”! (And I VERY RARELY use that term!). Excellent!
