For those that don’t remember, Clyde is the Smith family dog. Beagle/chihuahua mix, can’t keep his mouth closed more than thirty seconds. Gets into any food within reach.
[EDIT] I have fixed the “memento/momento” typo. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out.
[EDIT 2] The site’s comments got hit with a HUGE spam attack, over 50 comments made to strips from 2+ months ago, masquerading as generic nonsensical replies to everyone’s comments. I went on a troll-hunting spree and got ’em all, but if any legitimate reader’s comments have disappeared, let me know and I will try and fix it. I had to set the site to flag any comments with the words “google” “yahoo” or “bing” as spam, so try to avoid those words until I can figure out a more secure option. Sorry!

Had a piece of Fan Art sent out over the weekend! Courtesy of Comatose Angel:
Haunting! Thank you!
All together now:
D’AWWWWWW!
Damn, you stole my comment :).
I’ll join in the chorus! D’AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
There’s so much happy right now and it makes me so happy and I love you for making happy *wheeeez*. Phew. Can’t wait for Thursday!
“Sick to the gills”!!! I love it!!! And I love that Marigold is taking Selkie’s differences in stride.
…Really makes you wonder WHY we humans have such an expression, doesn’t it? O_o
Marigold… you’re being a pretty cool granny this page, but I still feel I should take off at least one point for saying “small ears” all of 30 seconds after you learned she was self-conscious about them.
(Seems Selkie herself didn’t catch it, fortunately).
Wait, didn’t Theo find out what the picture was earlier? Why is he asking again? lol
No, Theo knows that when Todd met Selkie for the first time, “she was drawing vomit”. He doesn’t know that Selkie gave Todd the vomit-picture as a gift, or that Todd took it home and kept it safe in a drawer. And he hasn’t seen it until just now.
I didn’t get a chance to mention I did notice the brown eye brows on Selkie and they look neat, Dave. I love the last panel: a family photo moment:) And is THAT what Todd was getting! I wondered:)
Marigold seems to be back and forth on the subject of Selkie’s nature/biology: accepting to Selkie and uncomfortable around her son and husband. That’s what I’m getting from the dialogue. I’m sure we’ll see more of this in the future:) Um… I’m wondering if she’s coddling the cat to keep him away from Selkie, or to keep Selkie the carnivore away from him! In her own mind, mind you. We know she probably wouldn’t try to eat him. Heh.
Rapid changes from grandma can wholly be attributed to the fact Selkie vomited on a grape and she has gills and has proved it… at this point, she’s coming to grips with it, but I think denial’s pretty much in the toilet once you have a water-breathing humanoid.
The vomit picture as the centerpiece of the family… I love it. A little chaos in the best of ways (yeah, sure he puked, but it was pretty!), a little understanding, and a lot of love.
Gah, this comic always gets me~
Awsome. Nice way to prove that she has a family now. Love the fan art too.
You know, you could end the comic right here and it would be appropriate. Granted, we’d hunt you down and force you to make more comics, but… 😛
I have the contingency-plan done. A secret vault with 300 dollars, a leash, 4 litres of mayo, a glock and my worst European attitude in case some American artist would quit on me while his comic is the sweetest ;P
Wait so, if I quit drawing the comic, I get $300, a leash, a gun, what amounts to a decade’s supply of mayonnaise, and my own vault to keep it all safe in?
Incentive! ;D
Noodle implements ready!
(There’s a link there in case someone missed it.)
You linked to TV tropes and disguised it as real words and then told us to click it in a seperate post?!?! Noodle implements yourself!
Hey Angel, this picture is…. I cant find the right word, but save it for background of my desktop.
(The comic love too, but this fan art just more than beautiful.)
ok dude… i hate to say this, but the “eyebrows” arent working for me, everything else is cool, but i just dont llike how they look, or how they “feel” in an aquatic being, (as someone stated before, having the less amount of hair would be the best way)
perhaps if they werent collored? or just a line?? idunno, i just dont like them right now.
Slightly bushy eyebrows actually make a bit of sense in an aquatic species, they’d help keep waterborne particles away from the eyes.
Aww! There are so many cute moments in this comic. This is why I read it when I’m depressed haha.
That fan art is a little creepy, well done but creepy
The photoshopping of the fan art picture could have been done better, but the comic is still as adorable as ever. Selkie and her cutie dress and new hairstyle.
Starting to wonder if grandpa is secretly a unicorn.
He’d be the awesomest unicorn ever
How is it that you attract such awesome fan art Dave? I’ve not seen a single piece of fan art that I didn’t like. Other webcomics seem to attract some artists who .. how shall I put it.. aren’t artists.
🙂
Because I have awesome readers!
Considering that I’m not an artist AT ALL and my fanart was probably the least artistic of all of them, I’m flattered. 🙂 Thanks.
And, I love the strawberry and jalepinio (can’t spell that one) magnets. If I ate a strawberry and a hot pepper, I’d probably inspire that picture, too. 😯
You’re most welcome Danzier 🙂
AWWWWW! Is it bad that my eyes misted up when Todd pulled out the drawing? Seriously, I got a little tear, and then Selkie’s comment was so surprised and sweet I teared up a little more. “Welcome to the family Selkie.” 🙂
Love love love the “momento” <3 Glad you like my picture! I know it could have been done better, I'm still learning what all the buttons and such do in Photoshop. ^_^ Anyway Hopefully I'll have more time to make more arts for you Dave!
The fanart is really impressive. You did a nice job with the skin color, and the eyes are nicely done, but I do have a piece of advice on the eyes, If you would be interested in hearing it. They look neat as is, but you might want to keep the pupil black (this can be accomplished by copying the layer of theoriginal picture and cutting everything else away, which can be easily accomplished by selecting the pupils and then inversing the selection). If white pupils were what you were going for for stylistic reasons, feel free to ignore what I just said.
I do some photoshop work myself. http://esmeeverafter.deviantart.com/
I didn’t even think about that lol ^_^ Though it is a great idea. Thanks a ton
Love the comic, as always. I know it’s just the eyelid-crease or whatever, but it kind of looks like Todd and his mom both have two sets of eyebrows. o.0 Also, awwww, hey kept the vomit fish picture! Too sweet. ^.^
Eyelids. That reminds me.
Does Selkie have single eyelids, or nictitating membranes?
That is an excellent question that I do not currently have a canonical answer for. Let me get back to ya on that!
Oh, please please can Selkie ask about the time Marigold sent Todd to clean up horse poop? Please?
Much love,
G.
I think Todd means memento. Momento is Spanish for time or moment, so rather that telling his father it’s a keepsake, he’s telling him to wait a little…
Thank you for not letting me be the only one who noticed that…
I love how people keep drawing Selkie with elf ears or fin ears even though it’s been established that she has hole ears.
I was wondering about that myself. Not that they look bad or anything, they just aren’t anatomically correct for Selkie. But that’s what is great about art and fanart – people get to express their own vision of things.
Just found your comic today, and love it. Very sweet so far. It’s going on my (ever growing) list of comics to check regularly 🙂
AAAAAANNNNNNDDD……..season 1 over
That was really sweet of Tod! I wasn’t sure if he had kept her picture, but I guess it figures.
Thanks for making a grown man cry.
