Oh, God, I *loved* Garak. So completely awesome as a character.
“Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren’t?”
“My dear Doctor, they’re all true.”
“Even the lies?”
“Especially the lies.” – Bashir and Garak (DS9: “The Wire”)
And especially relevant if Plo Quar comes into the discussion:
“Treason, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.”
You guys seen the SFDebris special on Garak? He goes into the few facts we know about the guy for sure, and then discusses his motivation. I loved it.
Also, there’s some really good Garak and Garak/Bashir fanvids on YouTube. I think “Savin’ Me” is an excellent choice for Garak, and the video I know that uses it was skillfully put together, so do look it up if you like fanvids ^_^
By the by, Tiny Box Tim Day went down well today! As far as my family’s part — doesn’t seem like anyone else used the hashtag, oh well. But we bought some juice boxes and hamburgers and distributed them to the homeless — about a dozen people, all very happy to get them (it’s pretty hot out).
Hope next year attracts more participation, but all I can do is try to make people aware of the idea (this year, I even made posters).
I’m only teasing, and like I said earlier about sub sandwiches, I don’t know anything about diving and I think its awesome to hear the perspective of someone who does.
Being underwater is amazing. Having to deal with the fact that it’s an alien environment to us is the pain in the ass. Having to haul along air, dealing with buoyancy, the cold, the pressure…
Selkie is underwater, totally adapted to it, just swimmin’ around, going shopping. I have a right to be a bit jealous.
You’re correct about that, but I thought it would help illustrate a difference between the sarnothi who are naturally adapted to underwater travel, and the human who only recently learned these things.
For my first few real diving outings I was still using my arms despite me knowing it was stupid, force of habit. If you really wanted to call out the difference between humans and sarnothi, you could have one of them comment on how Todd looks stupid while swimming.
me thinks he watched ‘queer eye for the straight guy’ one too many times….then again, where else is a poor fishy dude supposed to learn about landweller-clothing?
That last panel had me laughing out loud, literally!
“…Wait, what?”
ok, i think i’m going to change my guess as to what Scar was, from a Librarian, to a member of their Clergy…
He was a tailor, from the same school of tailoring as Elim Garak.
Anything involving Garak was probably the best aspect of that entire series.
“Because I can live with it. . . . I can live with it.”

BTW, Dave, Todd won’t be able to swim underwater like that, he would go nowhere fast. His arms should be down like the Sarnothi.
Probably not a big deal, you can delete this one if you like.
Lol, stop trying to apply your awesome, real world knowledge on scuba diving and wet submersibles.
Todd will swim while flailing his arms wildly and still manage to keep up!
They could also be traveling slowly enough for the non-aquatics to keep up? *shrug*
a frog crawl type swimming stroke is viable (if slow) underwater)
Yeah, you’re probably right. If Todd gets too far behind Selkie will put him into a headlock and *drag* him along.
Sorry, I’ll shut up now. I *love* diving, I can only imagine how amazing It would be to *be* a Sarnothi.
By all means, keep it up. 😛

This.
“Why does your Dad flail around so much when he swims?”
“ehh, he’s an amateur. You should see the swimsuits he picks.”
Good call, actually. Make the poor landlubber look like a dork.
Boiled leather…. like cuirre bouille? So it’s hardened leather armour?
“Because FASHION”
Ahahahaha, never change Dr. Pohl. XD
me thinks he watched ‘queer eye for the straight guy’ one too many times….then again, where else is a poor fishy dude supposed to learn about landweller-clothing?
…Did Selkie just stretch?
XD Pohl’s a geek but at least he’s a funny one.
Leather isn’t evil Selkie. XD
You tell that to a cow. 😀
LOL
Nothing says evil like wearing the skin of your slain foe.
Sounds like a quote my wife would make.
My mental voice for Scar is Minsc. “I have lost myself in your words but Boo thinks you’re just ducky.”
Some jokes just don’t translate, Selkie. 😀
How does one cure leather underwater anyway?
Carefully
