New fan art time! Another from LadyChrii, her take on an Adult Amanda:

I think this might be the first time I've shown Sarnoth style buildings in a non-blobby way.
Brings back memories.

I like this, we finally get to see her talking in a more assertive manner. And everything she says can be taken as completely normal even as she gets taken into her memories.
It appears this is having the desired effect on Amanda; they aren’t “scary people” anymore. She’s eating this up.
Be kinda neat if Amanda gets her dream of being a princess — for reals — due to her relationship to Selkie.
I doubt that’s gonna happen, but it’d be cool ^_^
Amanda’s not going to be able to go there today. She hasn’t been taking the necessary scuba training. I wonder how that’s going to go over? There’s this “wonderfuls place” that Selkie can visit but she can’t! To be allowed in, she’s going to have to work hard and learn something new.
Benny doesn’t seem to be in a happy place; however, one thing that hasn’t been brought up is that his dad was MURDERED by humans and now he has to live among them, indeed, his STEPDAD is human.
On that account he’s got a right to that chip.
Doesn’t make it OK to be a d*ck but it does sorta explain some things.
This is just a theory some people have, nothing of the sorts has been confirmed so far though.
And if it turns out to be true – disliking a race because because of the action of some individuals wouldn’t be right either.
But it would be the human thing to do ironically.
Disliking an entire race on account of the actions of a few is twice as bad as disliking an entire gender on account of the actions of a few.
“A man once broke my heart and also sold my information to identity thieves! Now I hate all men!”
“A woman once framed me for the murder of my own brother! Now I hate all women!”
Hating all humans is just combining both of those. And reminds me of how my mom considered “all men” (not counting my dad) to be jerks, on account of having encountered a few hundred of them at her Laundromat. Because that’s a reasonable sample size, right?
I’m guessing Benny’s just a typical grumpy/angsty teenager. So far, evidence points to it being a cultural thing — that modern adolescence is a social and cultural construct, because we have the chance to give people years and years to “grow up.” Back in history, you were often considered an adult at 13 or so — people would apprentice in their early teenage years and be off in the workforce, and Romeo and Juliet were probably meant to be early teens. In general, we have the longest period of childhood in history, and we are okay with teens being really nutty until they fully mature.
Teen brains are biologically weird, but we encourage it a lot culturally. Benny I’m guessing is acting like a human teen for this reason.
I’ve suspected that a lot of what’s going on in Benny’s head is he remembers his homeland. He remembers what he’s lost in this war and he doesn’t understand why he’s lost it all. All he knows is that he’s surrounded by people not his own, with a step father not of his species and he doesn’t know how to deal with it. Thus he shows angst and is generally an unpleasant child because he just doesn’t know what it takes to cope with his current situation.
“Murder” is a legal term. It implies that someone knew he was in the net and allowed him to be processed with malice aforethought. At best, you’ve got manslaughter here.
Murder isn’t just a legal term. We’re not talking about what would happen in a court of law here, but about how a boy feels. Benny may know the distinction and yet, emotionally, still feel that his father was murdered.
If the illustration going along with the backstory is accurate, the fishermen knew dang well he was there.
It’s more they didn’t realize he’s sentient – not sure how the heck that happened but that’s the story.
We still don’t know if Benny is related to the Sarnothi that was killed by the fisherman. It is also possible that his father died during the war. When you are talking about refugees, any number of horrific things can happen to break up a family.
Aww, I like shy green lady.
Carry is very sweet, patient and gentle. ❤
Giving that poor server inconsistent info. They aren’t in cosplay but are talking in what would sound like cosplay.
Oh, good point!
Since the server is a walk-on character, I expect she’s going to chalk it up to “People are weird” and move on with a shrug. As long as the tip’s okay, she won’t care. The genetic-condition story seems to have the effect of shaming most people into shutting up, out of courtesy.
I dunno. Except for the “green glow” part, I could easily imagine this being a village in Europe or something. And if the green glow is Aurora Borealis or something, then clearly she’s Scandinavian, hence the weirdness. 😉
Once again I am left wondering where “home” is.
It’s where the heart is. So in between the lungs within the pericardium.
Wow nice take on older Amanda-takes on the style of her mother^^
small and rustic?! looks more like sky-scrapers to me….or would that be surface-scrapers? oh well…i guess the green glow comes from the same sort of energy like selkie´s bow or pohls tools?
I was thinking that they might be called “foamscrapers”.
I think she’s remembering home? Or maybe not. XD It just looks like she is.
Isn’t Sarnoth itself like super dense or something? Probably a matter of scale, it’s small and rustic compared to it.
Good evocation of nostalgia, at the end. The longing of an exile.
Welcome to Rapture, a small rustic community of advanced technology and magic.
Man,that place sounds beautiful. I feel pretty bad for Carrie though. It might be pretty but I doubt it’s enough.
Jin’suir? As in Jin’Sorai? Is the colony named after Sarnoth’s fallen province?
It almost seems to be a cognate: “Haven of the Jin’Sorai.” With what we’ve seen of the Sarnothi language, that doesn’t seem likely, though, because they just don’t have cognates (some time ago, it was confirmed that Dave uses a cipher to create the language, which makes such a thing basically impossible).
So maybe it’s the brand new Sarnothi being welcomed into the “Haven of the Jin’Sorai,” and trying to make their Sarnothi mouths pronounce English words? That’s the only thing I can come up with, but I’m sure Dave would be able to answer it better.
Thought I’d let the discussion grow a bit before I chimed in on the meaning. 😉
Havei means “small” and Jin’Suir is a reference to Jin’Suir province, the first major battlefield of the sarnothi civil war.
So Havei Jin’Suir means “Little Jin’Suir”.
