Thank you Diana!
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.

LMAO I have been there, I worked at a Jewellery store once and commission is nice
Lol, you can almost HEAR the clerk dude’s brain go “Ca-CHING!” and totally see the dollar signs lighting up his eyes. Poor Todd, shoes are evil. Bad shoes, bad!
Ahahaah that salesman is entirely too entertaining.
That cinches it, they need to move somewhere where she can wear the same pair of sandals year-round.
Lol, that smile! XD
The smile… ^-^… It scares me.
It makes no sense to buy a kid winter shoes in August though. Her feet will grow too much by winter for her to wear them…
Too true! Wellies are the answer!
I’m just wondering if Todd’s really well off but just really frugel. It would make sense since he cleared the credit part of the adoption process to be able to support a child and I’m sure the one for Selkie might have been higher since she has more special needs.
I always wear sneakers in winter, even when I lived in Cambridge when I was little (when my mom didn’t make me wear duck boots, lol). They should suit Selkie just fine.
Gregori’s chibi-like expression in the second-to-last panel is hilarious XD. You do a very good job with extreme expressions, i.e. shock and extreme happiness.
“Ya cain’t pet fish!” “Yas you cans. Just bes quicks.” XD lol
Wisconsin winters without boots are torture–I’ve been there. Also, schools around here require snowpants and snowboots after the first half-inch of snow that sticks.
The slush in April without boots is worse, though, come to think of it. Sneakers fall apart in that stuff.
I can’t tell if Greg is just greedy, or genuinely cares. On one hand he does seems to be enjoying the $$, on the other he’s looking out for selkie’s interests too. I mean he is right about this stuff.
I just found your website through blip and went through the whole archives (then dicoverd alt-text and had to go back). You are PURE AWESOMENESS, please keep up the fantastic work 😀
The best way to pull on someone’s pursestrings is to pull at their heartstrings. :p Of course he’s looking out for her best interest. It’s the easiest way to open the pocketbook.
That is awesome, Dave:)
Great portrait of Todd there Dian!
“Todd’s starting to get a bit exasperated.” He may as well get used to it … being as how he’s a dad now! LOL
XD XD XD XD XD
Totally right about petting fish! Ha ha, my parents wouldn’t let me have any pets other than fish and I used to tell them it wasn’t fair I couldn’t have anything I could pet. Then I’d try to make them feel guilty by petting my goldfish. I think it was easier in a bowl than a large aquarium or anything but you pretty much just reach in quick and swipe 🙂
When I was a kid we had an aquarium, and we kept a few black moors (black goldfish wish big goggly eyes that stick out). They tended to like being petted on the top of their heads, just between the eyeballs. That area is soft and velvety-feeling, rather than scaly.
@Whirlwitch
Yeah I worked at a pet store and Gold fish (black Moore is a type of gold fish) tend to be quite happy to be lightly touched and hand fed once they get to a good size.
And the Love-o-meter is still rising!
I started reading this webcomic today and I have to congratulate you. It’s really nice. Keep up with the good work!
I realize that my area’s foster/adoption practices don’t apply to the Selkieverse, but a child with such special needs and medical issues should certainly be eligible for a subsidized adoption.
Selkie’s doctor bills, anything out of the ordinary she needed, like that space heater for her room, bottled water for gill care, special shoes, etc, would be covered or reimbursed by the city or state, and Todd would get a check every month. Social services REALLY want to get kids out of institutions and into forever homes.
Wow, thank you for posting this. I didn’t know they did subsidies for special care adoptions (critical research fail I guess. XD). Good food for thought, behind the scenes if nothing else.
You’re welcome! Your hero shouldn’t have to go broke for doing the right thing. Heh, I can just see some city accountant or auditor going through Todd’s reciepts…
Rereading the comic for fun, I must say that the 7th panel in this comic is my favorite ever 😀
