I guess the lyrics can’t be all bad as I already started thinking about possible melody and rythm to go with them. Not that I got anything satisfactory out of it – I’m not that quick coming up with new ideas – but I could easily imagine these lyrics sung on a (melodramatically lighted) music video.
they’ve also got like, a folk thing going on? (Which seems appropriate). But that sort of lyric which sounds rhythmically more like beat poetry than a rhyming scheme, at least to my ear!
And then they start playing EVERYWHERE and you can’t get away from them. There are very few songs that I actively hate, but most of them are the “constantly around and completely meaningless” type. Worse still if they’re also catchy, because then I can’t get them out of my head.
You’ve got me wondering about the potential for a thing like the request for Fan Comics, but for song lyrics.
Consider, for example, that you post a short list of themes, and maybe a line of inspiration for each (that needs to be incorporated, or partially incorporated, in the lyrics), and see how many submit lyrics.
Then you could reveal the “winner” when you use the lyrics actually in the comic at whichever point would be useful to your tale.
I don’t think this is something we could do *quickly*, mind, but with enough lead time it might be a fun group activity, trying to invent songs to go with e.g. the refugees, or longing for the lost homeland, or a Sarnothi lullabye, or a “patriotic” song related to using your Echo powers for the good of the clan, or whatever.
