Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Poor Selkie, her day just took a screaming 180. ā¹
Dear me… It appears Todd is trying very hard to conjure eye lasers, himself…
I love how Todd is nearly giving himself a hernia trying not to swear and Selkie is all “the HELL is this!?” Though I was kinda expecting the poo emoji to make its appearance.
Language, Selkie. On the other hand, she’s using fewer inappropriate plurals.
I must have missed something. If today is Friday, why is there no school?
Avery told Todd to “call your daughter out of school”.
“Hi, Mina?”
“… good morning, Todd. You really shouldn’t call me at home.”
“Selkie won’t be in today. And I’m pretty sure Amanda won’t either.”
“… are they okay?”
“I don’t know. Bye.”
At least when I was in school . . . many years ago . . . you called the school office with stuff like that, not the teacher directly.
And that was only if I was out for several days for whatever reason. One day? I took a note in from my parents the next day and gave it to the teacher. I’m not sure that would fly anymore, but I haven’t personally dealt with a school system in . . . many years.
Same with me, but I graduated from high school 50 years ago. I think schools now feel they need to be more proactive when a kid misses class, just in case he/she is NOT being kept home but disappeared somewhere between home and school. Mostly that would be the kid playing hooky, which in my day would be resolved days after the kid came back to class via notes between the teacher and parent. (That’s something I never did because my backside would be sore as soon as Dad found out.) These days, the parents might sue if the school did nothing and it turns out something did happen to the kid.
25 (ish) for me. So, yeah.
Or even if they find out the kid’s been playing hookie to drink the bottle of hooch he snuck out of the cupboard.
yeah, but Todd has Mina’s home phone number. I think he’d be more inclined to do it this way.
Last night I actually had a dream in which Amanda was able to style her hair with Echo powers (she gave herself the really big curls). Selkie commented that it looked nice so Amanda did the same for Selkie with big curls in a ponytail. They were just really happy and it was super cute.
You should do an art!
I would if I didn’t know exactly how mediocre I am at drawing. lol
Hit the First button up top. Don’t let current skills stop you. Give it a go anyway.
Oh, I know. I’ve been reading this comic since the very beginning. It would just take me too long to try and draw something decent out. It’s something I don’t have much time for at the moment, considering the more pressing responsibilities I have to deal with. Perhaps when I have a bit more free time I might give it a go.
Iād love to see that scenario, if you feel like giving it a go!
I have never been so offended by something that I agree with so fully. šš
Well that’s a fine how do ya do!
Since I can’t comment directly to the thread, I just have to say, aw, jeeze. I’m both super happy and a little embarrassed that even Dave wants to see my little dream scenario on paper. I’ll do my very best to try and bring it to life so that both my fellow Selkie readers and its beloved author can enjoy it.
I hope to see it someday!
It’s weird how webcomics starting out with bad art has been such a comfort to me — a reminder that you don’t start out good, you get good through time spent. I know of maybe four webcomics where the artist was established before they started the comic (Lackadaisy, Girl Genius, Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic, and The Dreamland Chronicles (sorta)); the rest of the artists have to push through their initial misgivings and eventually grow into something really worthwhile.
Everyone’s gotta start somewhere! The way I phrased it on my first official YouTube video is, “You have to be willing to make the bad stuff so that you can become someone who can make the good stuff.”
For what it’s worth, you could add Widdershins to that list. Really, though, I’m only mentioning it because, if you like Selkie, you’ll probably also like Widdershins.
It didn’t look to me like Amanda figured out eye lasers. Instead, she needs to learn how to turn them off.
This is what happens when you tempt fate, Selkie
This is the funniest page so far. I love it!
