Meanwhile in the future, Selkie shows up with the captain of the football team on one arm and the Havei Jin Suir flipper-ball champion on the other. She marches them up to Benny and goes “Sees? *This* is how it’s dones.”
And 10 years after that, Selki and Benni are expecting their second kid and still giving each other crap
I always saw them a bit more as a big brother/little sister thing.
To be honest, I think Selkie likes the dramatic effect enough to do a sass like that to whomever she has the chance.

Benne here, done that. Advice from little sister who wasn’t dating, yet; worthless. Best dating advice came from my -Mom- ! If you don’t like both her parents, it just won’t work (the relationship).
Which may be entirely because I led a very average predictable uneventful and mainstream sort of life at that point.
Does Carrie have a speech impediment or does she stutter because she’s nervous?
I don’t think it’s been explicitly stated, but a good guess would be that it’s due to trauma from the murder of her first husband (Behn) and the loss of her daughter (Pe Geh).
