I’ve been trying to minimize/avoid these “colors later” updates lately but today’s half-assery is brought to you by the letter “scrapped the original draft halfway through because I had a funnier idea” and the number “oh god why”.
History will remember this decision as the moment that kids never get correct on their tests.
‘Future boyfriend’ thing could’ve not been said imo.
But he’d been a pretty good detective.
what if its future girlfriends XD
I seem to remember Selkie claiming some actor guy as her future husband in some offhand comment once.
You sure that was Selks who said that?
90% sure? The other 10% is that Amanda said it.
Sounds more like an Amanda thing than a Selkie thing…
Yeah, I think she expressed interest in dating Green Arrow or something once
she wanted to date hawkeye to steal his arrows
Nah. I’d rather he not use that line either. Like she’s a little kid, it just seems unnecessary.
Yeah, I was not a fan of that line. Like, it’s realistic, but not something I like.
In fairness, she DID get a bit lovestruck when she first saw the (male) Sarnothi doc.
What’s wrong with it though? It’s a total dad thing to say. Selkie has shown an interest in at least Pohl lol
Cuz I find that kind of teasing gross/not cool? And it literally makes me uncomfortable as heck.
I understand that some people find talk of dating directed at underage children (like, under dating age, not underage wrt sex or drinking or other legal matters) to be too sexualized. Since I don’t tend to see dating as inherently sexual, I don’t myself feel that squick. (Though, to be fair, I also don’t find nudity to be inherently sexual, and I seem to be at odds with 98% of American culture… at a generous estimate.)
But, I do understand that some people feel that way. And I have heard some fairly good arguments for avoiding that kind of “let’s get them married young!” mindsets.
That said, I don’t think that a few people being squicked by it, or the possibility of such talk being sexualized, or the reasons that more aware parents might consciously choose to avoid such talk, is enough of a rationale to avoid such talk altogether. It’s very human to see a possible/likely future and to make observations and jokes tying in the present with that future. Like making jokes about how Selkie’s kids will look or behave, before we even know if Selkie wants kids or would even be capable of bearing any.
Oh you find it offensive. I thought you meant there was something legitimately wrong with it. Like that the line was delivered poorly or forced or something.
Total Dad comment. I love it!
heh, yeah I feel a little bad for them xD
Feel bad for Selkie and Todd? Or for the future boyfriends?
Either way, the comment works, and I support both ideas.
I really feel bad about this, .. cause,…you know,… Orphanage. I could take any question or any problem to either parent. That might be rare, I dunno? It’s the one thing my budds and I never discussed, I just assumed everyone was like that.
Oh, Selkie’s expression in panel 4… Wonderful, Dave. Color or no.
For anyone doubting that this takes place in an alternate universe I present panel 5 and that car.
