I like how Selkie is actually pretty forthcoming with Todd—even when she tries to hide things. It’s very much in character for her—and actually it is for Todd as well (he tends to “think out loud” versus taking his time to speak). I could see many a conflict ahead during adolescence, but often kids who are like this are less likely to get into trouble (or stay there at least 😉 ).
Hoping her reveal doesn’t cause trouble, but the adults probably were expecting too much of an 8 year old—especially as other kids like her came to her school.
don´t forget the prissy cat that you can pet to make your grand villain speech even more sinister by contrast! selkie´s fish doesn´t quite cut, i´m afraid 😉
Yeah, kids are plenty prone to this, even with serious stuff, and adults are quick to see through the BS. When I was 8, my brother and I were playing “King of the Mountain” at our grandmother’s, and he pushed me off an 8′ or so height, and I broke my wrist.
He somehow managed to convince me NOT to tell our parents, so we’re both sitting in the back of the car waiting to go home. That right there was enough for our parents to go “…okay, what happened.” I just held up my arm, and they drove to the ER.
(Ring, ring, ring! Banana phone!)

The budding super villain needs some classes on lying, lol!
Yes, that’s a vital skill. Either lying, or sarcastic confessions that nobody thinks are the truth.
Also, she has to have a memorable laugh. That’s mandatory. Has she established one yet?
Glee-hee-hee
