Looked up a lot of strange and interesting trivia while reading up on octopi for this arc. Here's one: apparently octopis don't survive mating. Males die shortly afterward and females die shortly after the eggs hatch.
I wrote the security guard in then out then in then out then in again. I'd like to avoid clutter and drag in the arc vis-a-vis extra character interactions, but I just can't see security NOT responding to a shouting kid.
Linkbacks: Gregori and Hamud staring. Dr. Bunny-Me. Also, yesterday was the comic’s 5th birthday! Selkie (the story) is now FIVE! As is annual tradition, here’s a birthday sketch:
I make no claims towards the scientific or taxonomic accuracy of these fish. ;)
A reader comment by Dawn ("Selkie needs to know that an octopus isn’t a fishy, but a cephalopod.") inspired the cephalopod bit. The desk guy just kept staring and saying "uuuhhhhh" in my original draft. Thanks, Dawn!
All Tai Li really needs right now is a stable water temperature and air circulation.
My original draft was for Pohl to say, "She's an egg, Todd. She doesn't really need much from us until she hatches", but on further thought I think the De'Madieas know better than to discuss such things openly.
