I got a couple things to mention today. The first is Comic Mix March Madness. I stumbled on this from some of the other webcomics I read, and I noticed a couple people in the comments section volunteered Selkie for[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I may re-draw Barbara's pose in the second-to-last panel later. Really unhappy with it.
Today’s comic was half an hour late because in addition to Selkie and school work, I am also currently trying to save a galaxy from total annihilation by malevolent machines. My name is Commander Shepard, and I approve this lame[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I sometimes google trawl for adoption-related articles for background research on the comic, and Heather's minor panic attack was inspired by one. The article described an adoptive mothers experience taking her daughter to see Despicable Me. At the scene where the three girls get taken back to the orphanage for being too demanding of Grue's time, the kid started hyperventilating and had to be taken out of the theater until she calmed down.
-EDIT- Apparently I forgot to draw Todd’s rash. Not the first time that’s happened either. XD A few weeks ago I had the privilege to visit a classroom in my town after the teacher saw the article about me in[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Dialogue in a previous strip implied Amanda had already left the office between strips. I didn't really mean for that to be the case. :(
The office seems to be getting a bit full. XD Also, if you happen to be returning, I updated the Director Commentary with some new tidbits. :3 Thanks to Karl for prompting the train of thought.
I really liked the way this one looked without shadows and almost left it at flat colors. Changed my mind though. Also, I originally intended to address the speed with which Barbara Fairweather arrived at the school comparative to Todd directly, but changed my mind because I felt focusing on Todd immediately recognizing her flowed better. But in my first draft, the first few panels were like this: John (the principal): Mrs. Fairweather! We didn't expect you so soon. Barb (holding a smartphone, terse): Shopping. Cellphone. Buying hazelnuts. Ran some redlights.
Principal Ashton has no hand in panel 3. When drawing this one I put a text bubble at the bottom that obscured half his hand, so I decided to just not draw it since a text bubble was going there anyway. XD
I watched the movie Contagion tonight before coming home to finish the comic… kind of terrifying if you think about the movie’s subject matter in terms of the real world. I usually hate when color balance makes everything green-yellow in[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I almost cut panel three and redid it more realistically, but to be honest the big angry fireball is what I remember every phone call to my angry parents feeling like whenever I did something bad.
Have a great piece of news to share with everyone today. Some of you may remember me mentioning in last Monday’s commentary thread that I was being interviewed by my local news paper about Selkie. The article went live yesterday![…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
After the last few pages of drama, it was fun to break the mood with some bickering. XD
