So much context

THEO: Okay, so while my Son is being gently murdered, did something ACTUALLY happen?
ANDI: That's the thing, I don't even know for sure what to tell you. I think I can tell you it involves Selkie's government guys.
SELKIE: I haves government guys?
AMANDA: You've ALWAYS had government guys!
AMANDA: Remember Lillian talking with them?
SELKIE: Oh yeah.
SELKIE: OH! I wonders if I can ask for air strikes!
AMANDA: Dude, we ARE the air strikes now.
THEO: This feels like I need immediate context.

Hey, look at me. I'm the air strike now.
You’ll need context AND anti-laser repairing tools for the house soon.
Oh God, I’m loving “big sis Amanda”.
Yeah, I think Grandpa is going to get a lot more information than they are “supposed” to be discussing openly…
I think this calls for a quote of maxim 4: “Close air support covereth a multitude of sins.”
Gives new meaning to the term “wingman”
Did not expect that reference. 😀 Don’t let Selkie anywhere near Schlock Mercenary–she might get ideas.
Is it more polite to wait for them to begin a war of subjugation or can I unconditionally surrender to the sisters now?
Asking for a civilization…
I love seeing them bond as sisters. Even over being potential WMDs lol
Agreed, though give any child a combination of too much caffeine and sugar and they all feel like WMDs. These two just get to literally be WMDs instead, though hopefully not too literally for everyone’s sake.
Good luck enforcing top secret clearance with 8 year olds.
At least they are 8. There are basically absolutely no secrets kept when you have pre-schoolers/kindergartners. People who take care of that age get to know all sorts of things. Even strangers can get to know all sorts of things if they decide to strike up a conversation with them. At least at 8 they are sometimes a bit better about having a filter on things.
Amanda and Todd should be briefed about whom they can talk to about what
If it’s a Q clearance the answer to that is “no”.
I highly doubt the Department of Energy are the ones handling Sarnothi integration.
I sort of feel like the joke is on the government if they expect kids to not accidentally blab something, especially to family. They don’t have the maturity or the training for it. Especially since it is something that carries a lot of emotion and personal experience with it (literally blasting things with your eyes, the excitement, the fear, etc.). In my opinion, it’s safer to go to the grandparents’ house and have them release the emotional energy there than take the chance that someone will overhear in the apartment buildings. If the government was really wanting to keep it under wraps, they would have moved them to a rural area with no close neighbors and either bring in a teacher or homeschool them. The combination of apartment living, kids, and cellphones with cameras vs paper forms makes me feel like they aren’t really trying very hard.
Random government bureaucrat: It’s just a kid, they couldn’t cause too much trouble. I see no way in which this could possibly go wrong.
It’s not the first time kids have known classified information or the first time it could be exposed to relatives. Someone from Bureau TLA needs to bring them paperwork and instructions.
I love that Selkie and Amanda are bonding over being WMDs.
Amanda is adapting to this much quicker than I anticipated.
I think even that little bit of using this ability intentionally did a world of good.
Amanda is now “special” and she knows it. There’s nothing to be jealous about anymore because she’s in the same boat
no airstrikes until you are 18
Just for the record: the hair clips are back to green and pink respectively.
Agent Brown is definitely low-key allowing these leaks. He’s done it explicitly with Pohl, and if they were *that* concerned about leaks they would’ve been waaay more explicit about what can and can’t be shared and how.
No, Amanda. To be air support, you gotta fly, first.
…can Echo powers make them do that somehow? I guess being aquatic, to the Sarnothi it was never a relevant thing to try out :p
If Amanda has picked up this ability and Todd is her father (who was mysteriously drawn to adopt Selkie), what are the chances he has members of that ethnicity in his biological family tree? He was adopted, after all, so we don’t know anything about his family of origin.
Nil. The two species are two SPECIES. Dave made it clear early on that there would be no hybrids.
Explain Amanda then.
Like Then has pointed out, this may explain legends of magic powers among humans throughout history. They may have been manifesting Resonance abilities, showing that humans have the same innate ability to tap into it that Sarnothi do, they just haven’t realized what it truly is. Then also suggested the two species are branches of a common ancestor, giving more weight to the fact that humans have likely always had the ability, but not the knowledge to use it effectively.
Hope everything is going well, Dave!
