Good Morning. Please enjoy this post-sunrise update

It’s looking like I’ll need to miss tomorrow’s comic, just got a job at work that requires me being up at 4am tomorrow.
↓ Transcript
THEN: I'd like to get back to more important subjects than broken toys and broken old men.
THEN: If I may, Miss, I'd like to ask you both a few questions.
ANDI: Uhhh... about what?
THEN: Current Events, of course. As my cohort's slideshow demonstrated, sarnothi have used Resonance for a very long time.
THEN: I'd like to learn more about how we are now capable of sharing that gift with our surface friends. Amanda, can you tell me when you first started noticing that?
AMANDA: I... think it was back when that big laser was on TV. It sounded like singing, kind of the same singing as I hear now.
THEN (VO): "Kind of"?
AMANDA: Ugh, yeah, what I hear NOW just makes me want to puke.
SELKIE: Can confirm. I've cleaned it up.
THEN: ...Great.

Discarded text for the last panel that I opted not to go with because it felt clunky: SELKIE: Have you ever seen purple puke, Mister Then? THEN: Yes, yes, we've all tried the fruit at least once.
I actually like the discarded dialogue better.
Which was?
SELKIE: Have you ever seen purple puke, Mister Then? THEN: Yes, yes, we’ve all tried the fruit at least once.
It’s in the secret commentary.
I love everytime this comic proves me wrong; updates to Selkie are my favorite part of the week.
Does this mean the laser wasn’t a weapon, but rather a giant tuning fork to try and induce resonance in the humans, because “Sarnoth needs Echoes, Sarnoth needs YOU!”
It sounded like, back when Pohl told Then about Amanda being a human Echo, that the idea of humans being able to even be an Echo is something that most Sarnothi would view as something akin to being blasphemous…
Maybe it was supposed to attune more Sarnothi but also worked on human(s??)!
Or, it was just the first really big thing for her to notice, and the cause of her attunement was spillage from Selkie’s hair bow getting redirected to her as I think has already been speculated….
I’m still not ruling out the hair bow attuning several (if not most/all) of the other kids in the orphanage, and that the only reason that they haven’t hit resonance is because they haven’t been close enough to Selkie when she’s been focusing on being an Echo.
That is an interesting concept. The fact that her views it as blasphemous and not simply ridiculous, implies to me at least, that there HAVE been humans sensitive to Resonance in the past. You don’t create rules against things that aren’t happening after all.
In that light, I would retract my previous position that the Sar’Teri used the Resonance beam to awaken human echoes.
Need more updates!!!! 😀
I would like to know more.
I hope the next category is “Things You Should Have Learned in School (Had You Been Paying Attention).”
I cant help but admire how Then is being polite/nice ish even to Andy and Amanda. Not as wisecrackery
As is typical behavior from a rather skeevy character… He WANTS something from them… if acting Nice gets him what he wants, then by all means he will act all nice and friendly for as long as it takes… but I’ll bet that once he either gets it or finds out that they are incapable of accommodating him for whatever reason, whether it’s a legit reason, or if he perceives it to be them fighting him over it, then I’ll just about guarantee his attitude will turn nasty and snarky REAL quick..
Or perhaps even Then is appreciative of the concept of “time and place.” Then established himself immediately as King of Snark, as being cynical of “the system,” and being critical of both his former culture and the one he’s living in now. I don’t think he’s malicious like Gien. He’s not (necessarily) using these people for his own ends, unless he’s trying to figure out how to turn himself into an Echo – if it can be learned rather that it being a “birth right.” How far he’s willing to go to learn the truth of that is what will make him another villain – or not.
Given the number of villains who’ve turned into sympathetic characters in this story so far (I can only think of one who hasn’t, and another who hasn’t yet had enough screen time), it would certainly be unexpected for a non-villain to turn villainous. Hope it’s not true of Then!
We’re going to find out that Amanda’s old foster family run a soup kitchen now, aren’t we.
Well, great. Now that Selkie has said “can confirm”, all of her excessive plural use will now sound like Squirrely Dan’s accent in my head.
(This is a Letterkenny reference, for the vast majority of folks probably unfamiliar.)
To be fair( To be fair, To be fair, to be faaaaair), Letterkenny is an excellent show, from what I’ve seen of it. Need to sit down and actually watch whole episodes at some point.
