In “Dave is Learning New Skillsets” news, today is Blender edition. It’s a very early super-uncanny-valley Work In Progress, but I think you can guess who the subject is.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Now Then. Things may be about to get interesting (from the girls’ perspective) or terrifying (from Andi’s).
Those green skribbles representing invisible Then were on the previous page as well. You are a damn genius!!!
Ooh, I didn’t notice that. I had to go back and Then has been following them since they arrived.
Help! I can’t find the “squiggles” anywhere!
strip 1588, panel 2, next to Avery.
Also strip 1590, panel one, far right edge on the gray wall between the two speech bubbles.
The 1588 one is also in the outline of Then with his hands behind his back, though I didn’t notice it until pointed out today.
You guys must have better screens than I do. If I tilt mine just right, I can sort of see something that might be there. Then with hands behind his back? No can make out.
I wonder if that’s why Amanda was looking off in a weird direction in the last page. Did she somehow pick up his presence but didn’t know what it meant?
I nominate Pants as the portrait.
Green scribbles? Oh dear. Are they against the gray(?) walls? I’m mildly r/g colorblind, so those squiggles actually ARE invisible to me… I can’t see them at all. 😳 I legit thought he phased through the wall…
Whyyyyyyyy did my reply go here instead of where I clicked. I’m sorry if you got an unrelated ping!
I remember having fun with Blender for a while, trying to make furniture. I’m much happier trying to make things line up perfectly (boxes) than all the random “how do I even tell if I’m getting close” artsy style that would be involved in making people, creatures, plants, or landscapes.
I recall managing to make a basic cupboard block, a cupboard with drawers and handles, maybe a couple variations on the same, and then getting distracted. But I had a *giant* list of furniture I wanted to make, and how many unit cubes it would take (e.g. a fridge is 2×1, a bed is 1×2, a dresser might be 2×2).
Would like to get back to that… if by chance I could get a lot of other things done and have some free time to devote to learning the mechanics again. Last time I toyed with Blender, I couldn’t even figure out how to move the 0,0,0 spot to the corner of the cube instead of the middle!
As someone who uses Blender in a professional capacity…
You don’t move the 0,0,0 spot. You move the cube.
Unless you’re talking about the 3D cursor, which is an entirely different thing from the Origin location.
Andi’s going to panic again isn’t she
Then, your smug villain tendencies are showing again
Aah, it’s the moon from Majora’s Mask!
BLENDER!
Blender is AWESOME.
Speaking as someone who’s had academic instruction with 3DSMax, Lightwave, ZBrush, Maya, and all the rest of the Autodesk programs (Mudbox and the like), I can tell you that Blender is by far the easiest to learn and best all-around to use. (There’s some things the others do better- Maya has better drivers and UV mapping, 3DSMax has really solid nondestructive modelling, but Blender does everything really darn well, and all in the same program. And it’s soooo much more customizable!)
Remember that there are SO MANY free tutorials out there for getting started. Blender Guru is a good one, and the Blender Wikibook is also a good resource.
Blender Guru is whose tutorial I’m using! Following the Donut program.
I want to do some simple animations. I have ideas for how certain stories (Man From U.N.C.L.E., Rocky Horror TV special, etc.) could have been improved in the endings.
On another note: “Doctor Terrorhammer” is going to absolutely *LOVE* Then.
I can’t be the only one thinking of Freeza because of that last panel. lol
Nice work on the camo. Once it was pointed out I was able to see it, but the lines are too thin/faint to notice just reading through. A good example of how it should/would/could be.
You’re not. Is this even Then’s final form?
