Not gonna bother tagging them since they’re tertiary background cast members, but the three floating heads, er, kids in panel 2 are Selkie’s classmates: Caitlyn, Paulo, and “Star”.

Quick announcements. Firstly, Selkie’s made it into the first round of March Madness! I’m in the Plastino Division. So excited! Please vote if you wish, I wanna see how long we stay in this thing. 😀
Secondly, I’ve decided to start working more on Selkie merch. I still have the volume 1 print edition on Magcloud, but I’ve also set up a “merch table” on Society6. Currently the S6 page features these two designs available as prints shirts mugs totes clocks and shower curtains:
A Selkie face:
And four variations of an expression of contempt, based on the curse word pictographs:
I also set up these two designs on Cafepress here for those that want some more shopping options, but I intend to focus on the Society6 page primarily. Plus, the S6 page also features two non-Selkie illustrations available as prints. With more to come. 😀
I have a deep, deep love of both that last panel and those curse-word pictographs. But mostly that last panel.
This is probably what I get to look forward to in my future. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT GREATLY.
On those curse-word pictographs: That needs to be put on a T-shirt. And I don’t know if I’d call them curse-words, they look more like a “how-to” to me. A really simplified Kama Sutra if you like.
I suggest a capital Sigma with “i=1” below it and an Infinity symbol above it, followed by “a [subscript]i Venus symbol” and “b [subscript]i Mars symbol” it.
I actually wrote an essay in Junior High about that very wasp. It was a Halloween essay so I wrote about how it might be able to trigger the zombie apocalypse. Never saw a more pale teacher when she gave it back and graded. Got an A and a please never do this again.
I did spend most my recess time reading too… why is she grossed by Selkie’s choice of reading.. its science!
😀
btw, awesome library
*gasps* THERE WAS A CALVIN AND HOBBES STRIP REGARDING THAT SAME DISGUSTING WASP
MY DAY
YOU HAVE JUST MADE IT
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Ichneumonidae! My favourite wasps EVER!
I know of one public elementary school library which had bookshelves which seemed towering to a 3rd/4th grader. It was very crowded, and looking back I’m reminded of many used book stores. The highest shelves were just barely out of my reach, and I was short for my age, so it’s not like they would’ve been towering to an adult, but it’s still pretty damn tall for elementary school.
The school was in New England somewhere, and that’s the most I’ll say about it’s location.
I too went to elementary school in New England, Maine to be precise. The bookshelves in our school library actually were high enough that the librarian needed a step ladder to reach the 2 top shelves. Maybe not exactly towering but the top of the books on the top shelf only had a couple of inches clearance to the ceiling and I believe our classrooms had 8 foot ceilings. The library was only one room though and catered to K-8th grades.
Our Librarian used to shelve materials she didn’t want easily accessed on those top shelves. It was a rite of passage when she deemed you mature enough to check out books from those shelves and offered you the step ladder to browse them.
Sounds like Selkie’s teacher is aware that something is brewing, even if she doesn’t know the details. The kids participating in this retaliation-conspiracy aren’t being as circumspect as they think they are, and the adults they’re trying to work around aren’t stupid either.
When I was bullied as a kid, I never hesitated to tell an adult. I was socially ostracized already, so I had nothing to lose; something the bullies never seemed to grasp.
I was actually pretty excited to have that picture on a shirt until i realised they were meant to be four seperate shirt designs… oops…
Selkie and JL8Comic are currently neck and neck in March Madness. So vote! (You don’t need any acount to do so, and just in case you get as confused as me: the actual voting panel is below the display of the divisions)
Aha, that would explain it. 🙂
Jesus was bullied himself he was murdered and that’s the worst way to bully somebody.
Smart woman, to trust her intuitions.
