Back in the saddle folks, good to be drawing again! Took a vacation to Washington DC this past weekend, had a lot of fun, but the return trip home unfortunately met with tragedy. Tragedy most tragic. I partook of a[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
The four Clans each have traditional roles in Sarnoth society, but individuals are free to work outside of those roles if they choose. Plo Quar's job as a Peacekeeper was/is atypical of Jin'Sorai, who are traditionally artisans and builders.
Just a heads up, the next Selkie strip will be on Wednesday, June 29. I am out of town and won’t be able to make Monday’s update.
In earlier drafts, Plo Quar had been a close friend of the De'Madieas, in other drafts she had escorted them out of Sarnoth and defended them from enemy soldiers. I chose not to go with the route of a personal relationship, but they're still aware of her existence.
I had written a bit where Todd walks in to the room catching Sai Fen still in the water bubble, but on thinking about it I decided it didn't make much sense that Sai Fen wouldn't quickly floop that water bubble back into the tank before calling the human in to chat about war crimes.

I’ve answered this question in commentary before but for those that missed it or don’t check the comments very often, sarnothi breast feed their infants. It’s for a much shorter duration than humans do (a few weeks to about a[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I figure Sai Fen remembers the different sounds Suko made when he was younger to identify "happy" from "hungry" pretty reliably.
(Final colors will be a bit more delayed than usual.) I think toys that stimulate sensory input would be even more important than usual considering she’s confined to a tank for a while. And yes, to those that asked but[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Some of the toys new and some of them are Suko's hand-me-downs. Non-toxic plastic infant toys that won't leech bad things into water if submerged. More fun for her than a bubble-clam would be, anyway.
