Octopus intellect studies can be kind of trippy. They're capable of a lot of cleverness and deduction,and some studies even show signs of emotive states. Although, I also enjoy tentacle sushi. I'm kind of a monster that way.
In an early draft, Amanda deliberately refused to bring Keisha along since it was her biological mom reclaiming her and not an adoption. I feel like Amanda is closer to Keisha than anyone else and wouldn't deliberately reject or deny her, but she'd still much rather not share her new life if given a choice.
There was a point in the early drafts where Keisha was so hurt by not being taken along, she did a heel-turn into villain territory. About 3/4 through the Truck arc I started thinking, "Christ, do I really want this revenge theme to keep being a thing?"
In the pencil sketches, I drew Amanda's eyes in panel 4 a bit too quickly and she ended up with askew irises. She looked like a chameleon.
The "are you really my mom" conversation is gonna be next strip because I don't want to compress it too much for this one.
Was going to use the standard cartoony hearts instead of the anatomical-ish one, but I thought that looked like it suggested Valentines Day, romance and etc. I like this approach more for conveying that pounding behind the ribcage.
I get motion-sick if I try to read anything in moving vehicles, but my solution isn’t pinching my nose. It’s to nap through every road trip.
Wanted a second line in the last panel for a punchline but (1) I think it would've detracted from the scene a bit and (2) the best thing I could come up with was something-something "If you're a cop, you have to tell me or it's illegal".
Keisha's love for dancing is something that's on her cast page entry but hasn't been showed in the strip yet. Glad I got the chance to show her revelry.
