It caught me up for a minute too, and at first I thought it was in reference to some kind of rooster design I had missed in the last couple pages. I’m pretty sure he means that this is the last strip between us and actually being able to finally see Jin’Suir (or at least have them get in the water and be on their way). To which, YAAAY! I’ve been looking forward to that for a while 🙂
Yeah, I got the rooster equivalency, right away. Like pantie-hose does.
I wasn’t sure what it referred to, I thought the banter in the car was revealing and important, … Todd realizing he’s a father of two, just to start. I’m more interested in what Selkie will sound like under water, than in seeing Jin’Suir politics. More about Selkie’s feelings, than what the city is like, although… Like Zenna Henderson’s People recreating a New Home in the third book, after their planet is torn apart, an author’s view of what refugees want and need when they rebuild, will be telling. Dave is pretty d*** fine at world building.
It refers to the agony that Dave is inflicting on all of us that want to see Havei Jin’Suir.
I think Dave learned from the David Willis school of cliffhangers and delays.
Um, Todd? your daughter is aquatic, and you have been practicing with scuba gear for weeks. Why in HECK would you expect anything above the surface?
I think someone missed a memo.
Have to agree here, is Todd suffering some kind of mental breakdown where he’s forgotten, well everything? This is effectively a refugee camp for a war torn species that lives under the water. Was he expecting humans to live on the surface nearby despite everyone assuming his daughter has a skin condition?
He’s also thinking of things in terms of his own experiences. Being a land-dwelling mammal and having only met Sarnothi who live on land, it’s understandable that Todd was thinking “build around the lake” instead of “built IN the lake.”
Eh, one the one hand, yeah all of the camp itself would be entirely under water, and yes, the camp is supposed to be secret, so wouldn’t be a big sign. on the other hand, this was human built for the refugees, yes? So would need a lot of resources going in, and that would need a major point of access. But then again, I’m not sure how long this has been operational, and this may not be the only entrance. So yeah, I expected a large building at the edge of the lake, not this small one.
i’m thinking more along the lines of VillainCon from Despicable Me 2… what every one else that looks, sees a smallish fishing shack with a small pier, but when they go INSIDE the shack, that’s when the floor drops and turns the room into an elevator… right into this frickin’ HUGE submarine base (in BOTH senses of the word: being underwater, and the vehicle)
All right, everyone wonders how the lake stays warm enough for the Sarnothi. The simplest answer is often the obvious right? They pee a lot in the lake. 😀
Guess we’ll see in a bit but I asume sarnothi interiors themselves aren’t full of water – they are amphibious rather than aquatic so their livestyle is probably too.
Actually, I was assuming that they WOULD be water-filled, it’s the normal state for Sarnothi. Having air-filled airspaces under water requires some gas exchange or the oxygen in the air would all be drawn out.
They might have airspaces for doing certain things that are better done in air, much like we have tubs and such for doing things in the water– but in general I would assume a water environment, even inside a shelter.
Curious if it will be a regular or magic submarine.
It will be a bunch of rocks tied to ballons, with an upside down bathtub for dxtra air.
I do understand what rooster-blocking is.
I do not understand what the comment fears to. What am I missing?
Wanting to see the colony already. 😀

You are missing:
1) a colloquial term for tempting someone and delaying, sometimes of a sexual nature
2) a synonym for a male chicken
Rooster-a-doodle-doo.

He probably underestimated the depth of the lake.
Yes, he’s suffering a mental breakdown. The soccer-dad-realization kind.
He’s also thinking of things in terms of his own experiences. Being a land-dwelling mammal and having only met Sarnothi who live on land, it’s understandable that Todd was thinking “build around the lake” instead of “built IN the lake.”
Or even “under”.
y u more bamboozle indeed. YEEE WHY do I have to wait until mondaaaaaaay.
I will be severly if “Yellow Submarine” isn’t acknowledged at all in the next few strips
*severely disappointed
Don’t make me severely. You would like me when I’m severely.
Won’t like me, or would like me?
That lake looks frozen over.
Submarine. Green Lake maybe?
Wait, so you’re not just going to go drive face-first into the lake itself? Boo. 😉
The Fabulous Thunderbirds!

I mean more there would be a lot of people involved, so if nothing else there needs to be a parking lot. Or maybe a valet service?

What does the submarine look like? I wish I didn’t have to wait to see it. XD
