Regardless of how it tends to get abused, “potential threat to national security” is a valid argument.
As I understand how it’s supposed to work is that the citizen gets to sue for unlawful seizure afterwards and the seizing party has to justify themselves to a judge with absolute zero sense of humor as to why they felt it necessary, and if they’re not persuasive they have to hand it back.
And sometimes your customers just show up; sitting in their boat in the Middle of the Chesapeake Bay, in their boxer shorts, with one single bullet hole in the middle of their head. Crafty and Mysterious are the ways of The Company. Or you just have your half brother assassinated, … Countries do anything they have to to protect themselves.
I don’t trust him either. I have a theory that the resistant fighters are the true bad guys of this comic. I think they are just using the US government to get back Sarnoth and will then attack the US like they wanted to in the first place, possibly using information gathered by people like Then who worked with US agencies or by using the technology given to the US to somehow weaken their defenses.
Remember the sar’teri did NOT want to go to war with the US, the other clans did. Now these resistance fighters are allied with the US. I think the resistance showed the US some “magical” trinkets that could be weaponized and a power-hungry US got distracted by that to realize who the true enemies are OR they were so arrogant that they thought they could control them.
That is not a fair trade.
Todd should call the doctor for an emergency home visit
The doctor knows better than the agents
Todd needs a second opinion on what is happening.
And now for my craziest theory yet.
Selkie is a rare super form of echo
The result of 20 generations of echo breeding
From a top secret sarnothi experiment to weaponize resonance
Without the bow to stablize her, selkie starts to have
Resonance surges. Each more powerful than the last
And they are slowly increasing in frequency
The agents are horrified to discover that according to their predictons
Selkie’s resonance surges will culminate in a surge so powerful
It will wipe the great lakes area off the map.
By then her bow is too small to limit her anymore
And it becomes a race against time to engineer
A limiter large enough cor selkie to wear and
powerful enough to contain the apocolypse
So the greatest sarnothi minds work together to create
What will ultimately become selkie’s wedding dress
The last dress selkie will ever wear.
I think that her resonant EMP would wipe out electronics of some small area of Chicago, then they would see their need to act, long, long, before it got that bad. Not saying they would succeed in time, just that they would know what they were up against, earlier. I like your idea, but think it too extreme.
then is channeling his inner slytherin, me likey! however, her meeting other sarnothy could backfire dramatically – so far no one has mentioned to her that she´s all but the last of her kind, thens comment about the ‘fallen clan’ thankfully didn´t register, but if a whole bunch of sarnothis act like ‘whoa, a jin sorai, didn´t think they even still existed’ she´s bound to catch on.
What if the Sarnothi he is going to ‘introduce’ her to is her mother? Make it clear to Plo Quar that she still can’t/it’s not safe to raise Selkie but let them have contact? There *are* successful adoptive kids that have relationships with their bio-parents after all.
I’m getting a bad feeling about this. Something about Then seems off…like he has another agenda and is insincere. Also, wasn’t the point to keep these Sarnothi refugees separate to keep them safe? Hopefully, Todd talks to Pohl and Sai Fen about this.
Setting aside the question of whether he *should* take the emitter, he removed the ribbon. It could easily be attached to a new hair clip, allowing Selkie to keep at least that much. And surely there’s a way to make a “normal” recording of mom’s image and voice for Selkie to have on her tablet or a DVD player?
Exactly. I have been wondering this myself. For years, it did not do anything and was just a bow. Selkie is attached to it as a bow. So why not just leave her with the fabric component?
I dunno if I would count that as fair, and…I don’t know if they can actually take her stuff, legally.
The constitution is still paramount, and unlawful seizure is still unlawful seizure.

That’d be nice but your still taking her only keepsake of her Mother. And quite frankly I don’t trust ya dude. DX
I wonder if they could film the hologram, so at least she could play that back when she wanted?
It’d be nice.

Still got the feeling they are leaving something unsaid. Pohl was also pretty vague about the reasons.

This was exactly my thought. Is there a reason she can’t just keep the ribbon?
Although, will it disappear without the emitter giving it power?
This sounds like a very very bad idea.
… couldn’t Then just take the emitter, leaving the actual *bow* for Selkie?
Exactly. I have been wondering this myself. For years, it did not do anything and was just a bow. Selkie is attached to it as a bow. So why not just leave her with the fabric component?
Can she at least keep the ribbon? As a keepsake?
