For those curious, she’s seen the movie but never read the book.
We have new Fan Art today as well! Danzier sent me an adorable picture of Selkie playing in a park.
Thank you, Danzier! ^_^
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
You’re welcome.
Damn it, now Thursday needs to hurry up and get here so I can find out what happens next. Can’t the loyal readers get one teensy little bonus comic, and find out what happens next sooner? Love the storyline!
I completely agree. The suspense is killer!
eheheheh all done with the surprise Todd? Or you just going to keep leading her on?
The last panel is sweet. It feels so warm, especially as she stares at him, trying to figure out exactly what he meant by that. That aside, why would you let a young kid read Jurassic Park? That book freaked me out, and I was in high school when I read it! Oh wait, we’re talking about Selkie. Yeah, I’ll bet she’d get a kick out of it. 🙂
Heh, I read Jurassic Park in the 4th grade until my teacher found it and called my parents, complaining that I was wasting my time on such difficult reading. I didn’t get a lot of what Ian Malcom was saying, but the rest was pretty much easy to understand. My parents let me finish reading it and other Crichton books at home (Sphere is one scary book). I’ve been enjoying this comic very much. Good job!
The only people who understand Ian Malcolm are those who work in Chaos Theory, and Jeff Goldblum (he understands everything scientific).
This is adorable.
She completely doesn’t know how to read! Hence, the comic. I love this comic so far 🙂
You still need literacy to read comics. XD
Wha…Oh! House guys.
Both of him.
XP I actually started reading Sherlock Holmes in 3rd grade, and the librarian and I got into a huge argument over it-she said I was too young to read it, that it was too difficult for me, and I said I could read it fine. The head librarian had to come over, and that’s when she recognized me as the kid who was in there every other day and she had to assure the librarian checking out books I could read it. (Hey, in 8th grade, I read the Goblet of Fire in under a week.)
Now, to the comic. Oh…my…god. Selkie, stop it! Stop being so adorable!
Goblet of Fire in four hours 😀
Heh yeah I know I was reading David Eddings by kindergarten myself so yeah Completely get what you mean.
I really do love the last panel – her face is perfect.
I’d like to submit some fan art as well, but it’ll probably have to be scanned as I’m still terrible with a tablet. Is there anything you prefer/would like to see, Dave?
I would love any fan art you feel like giving.^_^
Hurry up with the next installment. I want to know what happens next
Selkie is so lovely in the last panel. Her face just makes me feel all gooey and fuzzy and warm inside. Darn you, Todd!! If you weren’t so doggone nice, I’d, I’d… I’d have to hug or kiss that man!!! This is just so cute!!
I absolutely love Selkie in that last frame! She’s so adorable!
I love the look on Selkie’s face i the last panel. So cute.
Also I hate how adults think kids are stupid. Luckily my school had students take reading exams every year to see if we were up to our grade level. I was reading at 13+ in the fourth grade, really surprised the other kids in my class.
yeah they did that to me too… bad news was that I scored off of the charts the first time. the next one they gave me said 2nd year university… was in grade 5 at the time.
I’ve been reading Selkie for about 2 months now and I just want to send all the encouragement I can. I really love the comic and hope you keep it up. I will make sure to keep linking friends over here.
I’ve just read this comic… twice. Well, in the same day. It is great, and I can’t wait for more. I do have an idea about what she is… how she got into the orphanage should be an interesting story, as well. Or included accidental kidnapping. One or the other.
Um… I tried sending some fan art to dave@selkiecomic.com and it got bounced back a failure. Hm. Any other way for me to send it to you?
I suppose I could post it on my site and you could take it off there if all else fails:)
I have no idea why it would bounce back. 🙁 Try again and if it still doesn’t work, I can get an alternate email address.
I had a post-high school reading level in 6th grade. Fabulous comic!
Don’t often comment on web comics but I really like little Selkie. So far you’ve made me cry twice, no easy feet lol. I hope she and Todd find that loving home we’re all looking for <3
In the last panel Selkie looks pensive if not surprised at this turn in the conversation. She has not encountered it before. Interesting.
Started reading mainly SiFi when I could read. No one ever told me I was too young to read. And I drew and still do now at 56. Never quite stopped. I intend to keep reading and learning for as long as my body holds out.
Last panel seems… strangely creepy.
