Meh. She needs special tools for fine motor development, since she appears to have trouble moving her fingers individually. Put her in piano lessons; she’ll be fine.
Not meaning to be glib with that, but it came out that way when I re-read it. Sorry about that.
She’ll be in the speach and language therapy program at school, and the fine motor skills will be under a doctor’s supervision. For being about 8 (just an estimate here) she seems to be doing quite well. As far as diet goes, well, pointy teeth usually point to a meaty diet, since the grinding of plant matter is done by the molars which have flattish surfaces. Of which Selkie may not have many. 🙂
I’ve never read Looking For Group. The only reason I know what LFG stands for is the magic of Google. No idea who Richard is either, since I don’t know any of the cast or staff.
I think her dietary needs are near carnivorous, with a instnctual preference for sea food that cam be consumed raw or prepared.
As pointed uiyut she requires fine motor skills development in regards to her fingers. Speedch therapy may also be called for, but i wouldn’t call it a “must” since she can communiccate effectively.
Environmental may mean she needs to be in water(salt water) so many hours a day) to keep her skin and gills healthy. This last one might pose the most problems.
The file may blindside him, but I highly doubt it will discourage him at this stage. Provided it is a matter of will rather than ability.
I liked his excitement. And besides, if someone was going to mistake my name, I’d want to be called Sophie, but that’s just me! I liked the fear in her eyes as she realized that things could blow up and she wanted someone to watch Todd. Just totally made me laugh!
I was just re-reading the old comics and I was wondering. Does Selkie speak French? If not I wonder how she learned the joke, I doubt anyone would have dared to say it in English.
Selkie’s “fine motor skills” I suspect may be just … uh … fine! She colored/drew the picture of the “Vomits Fishies”, didn’t she? I suspect those long fingers are quite dextrous (and strong) as they would’ve evolved for handling some very slippery prey items and, perhaps, dealing with shellfish and/or crustacheans. (Well, okay, I’m just kind of guessing at what Dave came up with for her evolution …)
I love how excited Todd gets in the 4th panel. 😀
Heh – maybe Calumet City, WI has a nice big Aquarium-type place … with a big reef tank! Selkie could go swimming! (As long as she promised to not eat TOO many of their fishies.)
I have to agree with BarnOwl in regards to the fine motor control. I didn’t see any signs of problems. She might have trouble flipping someone off, but she shouldn’t be worrying about that right now, anyways.
As for speech therapy, I’m not sure they’d bother. She doesn’t have any difficulty saying any of the sounds. She just tends to add an ‘s’ to the end of certain words.
Other than those two things, though, I can’t wait to see what ‘special accommodations’ will be needed.
Fine motor control takes time to develop. Those webs on her fine line fingers will make it harder to pick up some things. But she will be fast in the water. Does she need water on her skin? Does she like the shade and night more than the day? I’ll bet she likes fish, raw even, those kind of teeth are called “denticulated.” More like a shark’s or a reptile’s than a mammals.
Dietary and environmental concerns- I’m betting that means more than that she’s a vegetarian and needs to wear sunblock… 😉
hmmm wonder what special needs she has
A baby a day keeps the doctor away? I dunno.
Ooh! I can’t wait to see what her “special needs” are!

Not surgury.

….>> wow Todd don’t go kill yourself over it.
@Britanny: Either I’m perverted or you’re implying the same thing as what my perverted mind is thinking
@Fu: Did you just stole that from Richard of LFG?
@Writer-guy/David: Up for any TF2 this weekend and keep going, ya gots the color in mate

Hmm, I will venture some guesses.

Hey there, I just want to express my appreciation for this little fish kid. Okay, waiting for Monday, goodbye!
Nice to meet you, see you Monday! 😀

Selkie does not speak French, but Tony speaks English and French, and once he got in trouble the other kids were eager to find out what he did. :3
Thank you for your updates.

Ha ha, I’d like to be a fly on the wall to someone explaining why their kid jumped into a tank to hunt and eat the displays. XD

“Yeah, that’s her!” I love how happy he looks there.
why is Zheng so smiley this time, maybe hes a resolved variable now?
@ sin
What do you think is perverted about Brittany’s comment? I don’t understand.

“I think Amanda likes you, Todd.”
oh come on now Dave
Mwa ha ha ha.
I was going to make a similar comment, about foreshadowing, hahaha! 😀
Same.
When I first started reading this, I accidentally kept calling Selkie “Silkie”, not “Sophie”. 🙂
