My guess is that there were a couple versions of what Todd said that were considered. If he had said, “How long have you been here?”, Benny’s response would follow. But maybe Todd’s phrasing got changed while Benny’s response didn’t.
Benny’s got very justified teenage angst and hit the point of bad mood where nothing is right and nothing can make it better.
He’s stuck here in a bad mood watching other people get to have conversations with their dads – so been here too long – and got none of the outcomes he wanted – so not long enough.
