Benny has a personal interest in Selkie knowing her father. His died. He misses that relationship, and I think he wants Selkie to have the knowledge of her father as a way of bridging the gap left by his loss. Even if Selkie would still choose her “substitute” father, it is a choice Benny didn’t have.
Selkie already suspected that Scar is her father. It’s the entire reason she’s here. Telling her something she already knows isn’t useful unless you have something to add.
If Benny merely tries to make the obvious claim, Selkie willl respond with either “yes, I know” or “I thought that, but Scar said he isn’t so you’re wrong”. It’s not going to actually change her opinion unless he can present some new evidence she wasn’t aware of.
Like Yumi says. Very different, to have your own suspicions, then to realize that other people *also* do. Lots of people believing something to be true at least *feels* like evidence. And Benny might not have proof, but given who his stepdad is, he has a very solid ‘appeal to authority’.
I’m not sure we know. It’s never been covered how the face markings come about. Whether they are naturally occurring or a point of tattooing. If it’s the latter she may never have them because of her human upbringing.
Something for a future story in the near future Dave?
Smart girl.
Yeah, that’s the face.
I actually do believe he has her best interests at heart. He’s just perfectly willing to enjoy it in the process.
Broken car equivalent of truth, I suppose.
She doesn’t even have a driver’s license!
Trust your instincts, girl.
Kid’s got instincts. Smart kid…

Good job, Scar. At this rate, Selkie is going to learn of her parentage from a twelve-year-old.
Can he prove it?
Does he need to, to be seriously upsetting?

“Everyone knows this” has the potential to do some damage.

Avery needs to shut this down now. Benny has no right stepping into this situation.
Seeing Benny here makes me wonder….what face markings will selkie receive as someone who is mixed clan???
