Possibly the maniac with the shooty lasers that went all Napoleon? And maybe that’s why PloQuar took Selkie away; because her father is a racist megalomaniac.
He might have “abandoned” Selkie if he was hellbent on punishing himself for betraying her mother and genuinely believed they were better off without him.
By the time Selkie was born, Plo Quar had already zapped Scar and made a run for it, and she was unlikely to deem him a suitable father to hand her baby over to. It’s also pretty likely that he was imprisoned and/or hospitalized at the time.
(Actually, I wonder about that. Scar’s past crimes are a matter of public knowledge now, but he doesn’t seem to be facing any formal punishment for them. Was he ever put in trial in either sarnothi or human courts? Did such a court decide that he’d already been punished enough and/or that he’s too useful not to put to work when he seems sincere about atoning? Or did he just never get properly tried because as a refugee from Sarnoth, he’s not technically under the authority of any government right now?)
I’m guessing the last one. He’s Sar’teri and he was handing over “wanted criminals” to Sar’Teri forces. Who exactly is going to bring him to trial for that?
Whatever else he may be, Scar is a person of integrity. If he feels himself beyond redemption, he’ll still do what he believes is morally right regardless of how that might affect him.
As I recall, didn’t the village chief pretty much say that if Scar ever revealed himself as her father, Selkie would essentially be saddled with what amounts to Sins of the Father? Could be why Scar is saying this.
Yeah, I remember that part too, and wondering if that could become a source of conflict… like Selkie being forced to atone for things due to Sarnothi law/tradition, but Todd and the humans objecting and not turning her over to them.
IIIIIINTERESTING???
Now I’m wondering, will Fing Mar ever become anything more than just a bit of background trivia mentioned in commentary once.
Wait. What? I either missed or don’t remember this reference.
Is there some other Sar’Teri who could be Selkie’s father?

Who??? What??? When???
you’re suggesting that SELKIE is technically royalty then. I think. you’re referring to emporer buun, right?
Cern* Buun is one of the military defecters who intercepted the ship of echo users
I can’t remember what page he was on and he’s not in the cast page. Dave should really update the cast page.
Cern introduces himself in 1050. Buun is first seen in 1891. You can also search them using the tags: https://selkiecomic.com/tag/buun/
Not a potential father. Her aunt. Mother’s twin sister who was mentioned in the commentary years ago.
who now? also. if boy sarnoth names are 1 word and girl ones are 2…. what about gender-neutral sarnothi?
Scar could be lying because he doesn’t feel worthy to be Selkie’s father.
Yeah, that was my guess.
Or, because he literally agreed to interact with Selkie “as a ‘family friend’ only” in https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1427/
Of course if he were, he would never have abandoned her. Would he have?

I don’t think he had a choice in the matter.

Is Scar lying here or do we really have a Mr. Cleftchin?
I can’t believe that name stuck XD

Ooooooh
I have no idea whether or not Scar is telling the truth. I’m not even sure *Scar* knows if he’s telling the truth.

“the leadership of [group] are doing… very bad things, but being [group] is not one.”
