TODD (VO): Selkie, Mister Pohl is here. Start getting ready.
SELKIE: Okay!
TODD: Oh, one more thing. Gonna have Amanda over tonight again. Just thought I'd say something.
POHL: Are you sure that's a good idea, having her here during lessons?
POHL: I'm worried she may be hearing things she shouldn't.
TODD: Selkie probably would have told her anyway. And maybe this way we can at least get them BOTH on the same page regarding shutting of mouths.
POHL: True.
TODD (VO): Oh, and Selkie also said something about one of the sarnothi kids scaring her with stories about being kidnapped if she mis-uses Echo powers. Soshe may bring that up.
POHL: Oh, that. Yeah, no, that's completely true.

Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
First panel, tail’s on the wrong balloon.
Fixed
Todd: *record scratch* Excuse me?
“Yeah, no, that’s completely true.”
I was afraid of that.
Not surprised. The victors of the past war will not want an enemy weapon running around willy nilly.
Nah, it has nothing to do with the current civil war in Sarnoth, Te Fahn was referring to the “if you’re an Echo and you HURT people, they’ll take you away” issue… i’m still not sure if the “they” she’s referring to are somebody in the Human government, or the Sarnothi government… and/or if it’s the Sarnothi’s, then was it Before or After they were integrated in the refugee program (or whatever the REST of the kids/families were doing while Selkie though she was alone in the system…) AND… whether or not that agreement is actually still enforceable now that the Sarnothi Emperor has isolated the city-state or Sarnoth from the rest of the three clans unexpectedly…
Do you notice that Todd is more focused on Selkie and Amanda both keeping their mouths shut and wasn’t worried at all about the “scare tactics” of Te Fahn at all… but Pohl is just “ho, hum… kidnapping violent Echos, oh yeah, that’s totally true” AND, he has a “Meh, Shit Happens, go with the flow” attitude about it, not giving it even a moment’s notice, or even finding it worthy of mentioning to them AT ALL especially since Todd/Selkie do NOT have any “cultural background” with which to base their reactions to this info… so inevitably they will BOTH react, um… badly to this: Todd, because Selkie could just disappear one day and he might not ever know WHY. and Selkie: because she’ll have to reign in her temper even more than she has and be ever more watchful of just exactly what she DOES DO with her abilities… Not a strong habit for practically ANY eight year old kid, let alone one with super-powers like Selkie and Pohl’s (plus others) Echo abilities
I don’t usually get pedantic about “rein in her temper” vs. “reign in her temper” but in this case, I really don’t think she wants her temper reigning!
Ja, shure, jabetcha. I’m glad that you relieved me of the burden of commentary here.
