I have to imagine a human doing underwater dancing is like having two left feet and manacles.

Todd: Selkie, I’m so glad to hear this!
Todd: So, do you see it all the time now, or...
Selkie: Don’ts thinks so. Only sometimes, maybe?
Todd: Well, I’m really happy for you. You’re getting better at Echo stuff! Great work!
Selkie: Thanks, Dads!
Todd: What say you celebrate by having a dance with your old man?
Selkie: Sures. But's I'm leading.
Todd: Ha ha, I expected no less.

Being the wallflower at a sarnothi dance basically consists of hovering around and flipping side-up periodically.
Especially with a that suit. He’s gonna be graceful.
Equivalent of dancing with a beloved older relative. They can’t move like the young but you know how much it means to them, and how much it means to you because you are dancing with them.
It just now occurs to me that the “which way is up” thing is not *nearly* as ambiguous in underwater creatures as it would seem.
Take sharks—they can of course flip any which way, but they almost universally swim right-side-up when not actively doing something that requires otherwise. Growing up with goldfish, they will swim at an angle up or down if they’re actively ascending, descending, or eating, but otherwise anything other than right-side-up means “dying fish”.
Which isn’t to say that Sarnothi might not swim more randomly sometimes, but it’s not at all out of character for aquatic life to have just as solid a sense of up-down orientation and equilibrium as stuff that lives on land.
Same for birds, I guess gravity just … (never mind)
Synchronized swimmers to Sarnothi must look like a duck. Graceful on the surface, frantic flailing below the water.
Bwa ha ha ha!
You know, I think Sarnothi dancing might be the only kind of dancing I could do now, because my swimming was unimpaired after the wreck
It just occured to me. Are we just assumed that there are musicians off panel, or is Sarnothi dance a strictly medium that is done with no accompaniment?
Sarnothi music is primarily acapella/vocal. I’m planning to put some singers in the background on the next page or two, but since (1) the lyrics aren’t narrative-important and (B) the comic medium doesn’t really convey music well, I haven’t illustrated them yet.
Am I the only one that noticed that the Jin’Sorai in the first panel are very pinkish? Selkie is still her periwinkle color so either a mistake was made or we are seeing the influence of her Sar’Teri heritage in contrast.
Good eye. Jin’Sorai skin tones overall trend towards shades of lavender. Selkie can pass for full-Jin’Sorai at a glance, but her periwinkle skin tone is indeed a result of her mixed heritage. No other Jin’Sorai has been colored with Selkie’s skin tone.
Woot! Observation skill level up!
