Triceratop’s tank is plastic, so he’s not gonna hurt himself by bumping it.
I’ve received a lot of feedback about the dream sequence since announcing it’s end, both good and bad. I grateful for all of you readers, and I wanna say thanks to everyone for continuing to read the comic while the strip was doing something different from the norm.
I also got two new “deviant” fan arts over the weekend (*rimshot*)! First is an image by EsmeEverAfter:
The second is by Saokara. It contains artistic nudity, so for work and kid reasons I am placing a link instead. Check it out here!
Thank you both!
I was going to put a translated sample of the Selkie Language in the dream sequence, but decided it would fit better here.

I dun getit….
Who’s Sophie?
If I remember correctly, Sophie is Selkie’s “human counterpart” from the April Fool’s Day comic strip that was posted earlier this year.
I remember that. I was outraged! Taken in completely.
Reviewing it now, none of the adult Selkiforms sibilate… but I suppose this was non-canon so I guess we can’t draw any conclusions.
I hadn’t realized it until we came to this page, but it has been several weeks since we’ve seen Selkie in the waking world. I suppose I didn’t notice because I was enjoying the insight into the lives of the other characters, and how they’re doing. I found the dream sequence a little silly at times, but that’s the kind of thing you get when you have you a young child. Overall, I did enjoy it, so don’t think it was a bad decision.
I mean, it did give us some insight into Selkies’ wishes and anxieties.
awe thats so cute.. wow selkie just announced she had to poop to the cat 😛
um and what is the cat eating?
Looks like an electric cord. Possibly for the fish tank’s equipment. My brother has a cat that loves the chew up (not actually eat) mobile phone charger cords. She stays away from thicker electric cables, but the thin ones are her chew toys (despite safer similar toys being provided).
:3 Aw, I like Selkie’s little morning mantra in her language.
Is Crook trying to get Triceratops?… I swear it looks like he’s chewing the chord from the fish tank.
That mantra seems like it would’ve been the last thing Selkie’s biological mom said to her before relinquishing her to the orphanage.
“Selkie, I have to leave you here. I’m sorry. I love you, darling. I always love you, but I have to leave you here. They will take care of you. Be strong. Be brave. Be good.”
T.T Aw… why does that seem to fit so well?
Most definately chewing on the cord. My sis-in-law’s cat did that to the filter’s power cord once. Got the shock of her life. Thankfully she didn’t chew all the way through the cable because my sis was at work when it happened. Chloe (the cat) never went near that tank for the rest of her life. (She died years later)
o.o”” Jeez, poor kitty… thank God my cats never chew on electrical chords. I wouldn’t put it past one of them, actually…
Be strong. Be brave. Be good….. Be poopy?
The cat is chewing the cord for the light for the tank. That kinda seems like a bad idea. But, the kind of bad idea that cats come up with all the time.
bet the cat eats the fish or breaks the tank.
though with him chewing on that cord i’m also reminded of “christmas vacation” >.>
“What’s that smell?”
“Fried pussy cat! Hehehehe…”
o.o Poor Crook better watch out…
I’m worried about that poor desk, that sure is a nice desk, what if the finish got singed, or got cat on it? hehe XP
I like the panel with the cat on Selkie’s bed. He looks so cute.
I think it’s her desk, actually, the one the fish tank is on. And chewing some sort of electric cord.
Hey Dave! Is Selkie’s language complete? Meaning is it possible for a super mega geek such as myself to sit down & learn it? Lol
I wish! 😀 I have a few grammar rules scribbled down, and I write down new words/phrases as I come up with them for consistency, but it’s not a fully learnable language. Yet.
I do hope that when you see people at conventions years down the road in full selkie cosplay speaking ‘selkie’ like its klingon, that you know who doomed us all to this. XP
Selkie’s not human (yes, Ms. Griffin, I realise that’s not a bad thing!) so her language might not be very accessible to a human. Maybe not even subject/predicate based- though the verb “to be” seems to exist. Or her people may be bilingual, at least having a different language for use underwater (maybe something like whalesong).
Dang it, Dave, yours has to be the most provocative cartoon on the web!
Eep- Canadian friend suggests “provocative” means something different in North America- I mean
“serving or tending to provoke, excite, and stimulate; stimulating discussion or controversy; “a provocative remark”; “a provocative smile”; “provocative Irish tunes compelling the hearers to dance”- Anthony Trollope “
Yeah, provocative DEFINITELY has different connotations over here. The definition was a good idea.
You’ve got a point. But if Selkie can learn English, albeit with an impediment, I’m sure her language would be relatively accessible. Besides Lillian can speak it remember?
I’m really looking forward to when it’s complete Dave! I’ll be able to further my obsession Muahahaha!!!
A tiny bit scared now…
and so it begins….
Do not poop on the Medusa. Ooops, wait, wrong webcomic.
That mantra reminds me of a quote from “The Help”…You is kind. You is smart. You is important. 🙂
Triceratops is bumping his head because he’s trying to get out.
I quote update number 524.
He knows he’s next.
