Agh, that was a splendind chance to make them actually sisters and use it in the story, implying it was your plan all along, like a master of foreshadowing! Dave! Use this chances, do not waste them! xD
Dads? Mandy and her husband, and Sandy and her new gal have a spares ticket for me to the new revival of the Phantome of the Opera, In French! Please can I go?
Selkie, Honey, we talked about this back when you wanted to marry that Sarnothi boy,… Uhh.. what was his name?
Tehk.
Yeah, when you wanted to leave the appartment to marry Tehk. We’ve gone over this again and again, as soon as you’re the same age as I am, you can go out again; for soccer with Heather, swimming with Te Fahn and her kids, or to the opera, or swim down to visit your Mother if you like. Don’t make a stink about this and wake up Andi, she was out late last night at the gallery opening, and needs her sleep. And don’t you have a lesson plan to do for school tomorrow?
Dads! I tolds you this mornings, Ins-Service days tomorrows, no kids, no plans needed. Did you forgets?
AHA! That’s when she does the whole “Rounding Error” math… she’s 8 eight now, and Todd’s say 28… she is 28.571% of Todd’s age… then in 20 years, she’s 28 and he’s 48, she is 58.33% then add 20 yet again (48/68)she’ll be 70.59% then for 68/88 it’s 77.27%, (88/108) = 81.48%. much snipped math: (3268/3288)=99.39%, (4068/4088)=99.51%, even more snipped math… as you can see, she WILL be the same age as Todd EVENTUALLY… That is, assuming they use PERCENTAGES… AND assuming they can both live for 50000 years or so… (50008/50028)= 99.96%… ROUND OFF to the nearest 0.1% and you get 100%… Yea! THEY’RE THE SAME AGE!!
I crack jokes I think are funny. And I laugh, I get it, because they’re my jokes.
But I really get a kick in the endorphins when I see that someone, anyone, else got the joke. It May be because I reference oldie Music a lot, that folks don’t pick up? (Ring, Ring) Hello? This is America old age calling, we have a clue for you to pick up, from Mr. Floyd.
Damn! O.k., I’ll be right down to get it.
But it warms the icy cold cockles of my heart to know that there are people, who– if not lik me– at least appreciate the humour, bile as it might be.
FINALLY! After losing track of this comic around #400ish (lost lots of bookmarks, including my comics folder), I FINALLY found it again (glad to see it’s still here and still going strong! congrats!) and FINALLY caught up!
Now I get to seethe in anticipation of the next strip after a multi-day, 600+ strip binge 😮
I love that you make an effort to keep your comic diverse and constantly draw new hair styles and things, but a minor critique of those cornrows–the hair looks shaved down between them, maybe because they’re so far apart. I imagine you used real-life references, but when cornrows are drawn in cartoon styles, they tend to be a lot closer together to avoid this issue. I’d probably suggest keeping the braid to skin ratio a little more in the braids’ favor. But again, overall awesome and I love all the facial expressions in this one. 🙂
They do look shaved. It’s not bad as a hairstyle itself, but it doesn’t quite look like cornrows. Putting a darker brown (versus just his skin tone) between them would help—as well as making them a little closer together. Could also add a few subtle highlights to show the shapes of the braiding—but that may be time-consuming and conflict with the illustration style of the rest of the comic.
I do love seeing the art changes and the new characters, though.
It’s probably coincidence, and maybe it’s just me, but I just noticed that Principal Walford resembles Lillian.
Willing to bet she is also a force to be reckoned with, though.
Kind of? If I’m being honest though I think it’s more that I have a bit of a “limited face-shapes” issue art-wise.
thats the kind of face you get from corraling unruly kids for DECADES. it leaves its mark, i tell ya!

I left out the entire sentence where I asked if it was possible if she & Lillian were related. Derp.
DX Uh oh….this is going to lead to a lot of issues. Selkie’s probably gonna be either grounded until she’s forty or worse.
Oh, YES! This!

Uhn …..maybe?…
…and the Guru’s brain just went *SPANG*
I’m laughing but I’m also kind of thinking, “Damn when did Todd become Mother Bates?”
…
“As soon as you’re the same age as I am, you can go out again.”
“But’s we’re both constantly aging, I’ll NEVER bes the same age as you ares ats the sames time!”
“Well, then. There’s your answer.”

Or she’s off house arrest when she’s the age Todd was when he died.
That’s a downer, though.

“I wanna do that too” is the most realistic reaction of any human encountering magic. Especially potentially-sibiling-scaring magic.

The key reason I drew his cornrows in that fashion was to try something different from how I’ve drawn Chanelle’s cornrows in the past. Consider:
https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1093/ (bottom-left pane 2)
https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1056/ (center of panel 3, seen from the rear)
I don’t feel like Chanelle’s cornrows are distinct enough as being cornrows, so I tried a different tactic with this background boy.

Whelp, I still hate the Trunchbulls, I see the mister disclosed that stuff to his son, but it’s clear that this isn’t going to go well.
