For anyone wondering about Pohl's shirt, it's a World of Warcraft joke. I can't explain it in further detail without going down two or three rabbit holes of memes.
“He called me a drama queen” jumps to “That’s common, because of segregation”? I assume the connection is “He attacked me for being Jin’Sorai”, but it reads kinda strange without context.
The boy was specifically linking Selkies heritage to her being a drama queen. Seems to me like a common predudice against Jin’Sorai. So, it’s not so much out of context as it might seem.
He expressed that all Jin’sorai are drama queens, a stereotype of the caste.
That she was actively proving his bigotry to be accurate and applicable does not unmake the bigotry.
I choose not to provide an “our-world” example to illustrate my point. You can probably come up with your own, if you need to.
Hmmm, yeah I can see that. I may be leaning a bit too hard on reader memory of the prior interaction between Selkie and Tehk? (it was about two weeks ago in real time after all). Not sure.
He didnāt attack her for being jināsorai, he attacked her for being all dramatic and reasoned that by her being jināsorai, so I can see a subtle difference there.
Kind of like telling a preachy vegan āoh god you are one of thoseā.
Even his own introduction was in stereotypes, clan of artists, clan of builders…
And then not like humans donāt have those too, less now because of globalization but youāll still hear italians described as passionate, chinese as hard working etc.
That’s a little far, isn’t it? Yes, segregation is totally a thing that happens, but on the other hand, if your entire “shaman/mystic/religious professional” group is so distant that it isn’t real to kids…uh?
I wonder, are the Mor’kama somehow more separate from the other clans? I barely recall seeing any Mor’kama throughout the story, and way more Tel’dora, Jin’sorai and even Sar’teri. I hope we’ll get to see more of them…
Mor’Kama are the smallest Clan, even after the trials of the Jin’Sorai, and generally keep to themselves. They’re not very commonly seen, but still hold (well, HELD) a spot on the leadership council.
I read it more as, “Oh you’re one of THOSE negative stereotypes. Great.” because while not as frequent as people claim, those types do exist. Like people who claim all gay men are flamboyant as hell and throw glitter parties and stuff. Like, those types exist, but not ALL gay men are like that. I read it as him saying she reinforces the negative stereotype of her clan.
Not that there’s anything wrong with glitter parties. š Aside from the cleanup…
I NEVER understood the gay=glitter thing. it’s like, have you ever SEEN toddlers and glitter? I’ve never met an adult of any kind that could match what a 1.5 year old boy can do with an ounce of loose glitter.
Best part, he once added some to a birthday card for a co-worker of ours. Then proceeded to pour it all over her before she had time to act. She was PISSED, but it was amusing for the rest of us.
Not gonna lie, the shirt made me laugh out loud. š

Was he? As was pointed out in the comic itself she was being overly dramatic in the strip prior to that one.

Are you trying to correct the writer of the comic? lol.
Sylvanas? #NotMyWarchief
Hooo boy, Pohl has a chore ahead of him explaining this to Selkie…
MORE SOULS FOR THE UNDEAD QUEEN!…
Even his own introduction was in stereotypes, clan of artists, clan of builders…
And then not like humans donāt have those too, less now because of globalization but youāll still hear italians described as passionate, chinese as hard working etc.
Seriously Zappy boi for warchief. Or the guy from the saurfang cinematic.
hes the same guy u know?
That is zappy boi
That IS Zappy Boy! The zappiest of boys! Blizzard officially named him “Zekhan” though š Too precious for this war!
OOH! Maybe Thrall can take him under his wing! Make him even more zappier!
THRALL?!?! We are trying to nurture Zekhan (AKA Zappy Boi), not ruin it. Thrall DOES NOT have a very good track record when it comes to these things.

Long time reader, never really commented until now. But I just have to say I love you for the WoW reference. (I main Alliance but <3 Zappy Boi.)

Glitter is the herpes of craft supplies.
I have.

Good times.
Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. Pohl should recognize that it isn’t cool.
Also Selkie read as joking before. Do neither kids get jokes?
