Long hike.
-EDIT- my favorite piece of feedback on this strip so far: “….. I wanna hit you really really hard in the head with a brick right now.”
VERY long hike.
Long hike.

And next we get to find out how bad this Trail of Tears was…
What do they do with the babies that still need to be kept in water?
You read my mind, I was just worrying about the little egg babies and new hatchlings
They would probably just have to put the eggs and babies in a fishbowl or bucket of water temporarily until they could get to a tank.
Same way you move a fish when you move houses.
5 Gallon bucket Battery powered airstone/filter.
oohhhh duuude….. that middle panel stole my breath that’s…. sad and powerful… and that middle dude looks so glum. Where will they all go? What will they all do? D: MY HEART GOES OUT TO THOSE UNNAMED REFUGES damn you Dave for all the feels
Interesting question, that. How do you handle refugees when they are both a different species and have been your (unknown) neighbors for quite a long time>
With proper respect and dignity. THOSE are TRUE refugees.
The government at least knew for a while. Also the sarnothi refugees are lucky to not have some of the nasty baggage our real word refugee crisis has.
Mikael, THESE are political refugees, There are no REAL world refugees they are Ecconomic immigrants. huge difference.
No real world refugees? People fleeing the wars in South Sudan, Iraq, Syria, and the Congo are also fleeing horrific violence and, in some cases, genocidal violence. People fleeing the gang violence of Guatemala and Honduras are also political refugees. There are literally millions of political refugees. Where do you get this idea that there are no political refugees in the world today?
It’s really sad that some dude in his basement feels like he gets to tell people they aren’t refugees…
Yeah, Todd, the news is never a better choice.
I wonder how these images will affect Selkie, I wonder if these images will affect Mandi in a way that softens her toward Selkie, seeing her people in such horrible straits? I’m horrified.
Sardonic Pohl is sardonic. —> Sir, you are not being helpful.
Q:: Wait, did I mean that to be from Pohl, or to be towards Dr. Pohl?
A:: Yes.
Er, Todd? If you get the Disney Channel (or whatever the equivalent in Selkie’s world is), now would be the time.
Hrm. There’s a question. How would the entertainment giants take this news?
I imagine the Disney expy would work to get something made that’s inclusive of the Sarnothi- a Sarnothi Mousketeer or the like- immediately. As much of a corporate behemoth Disney is, they at least focus on LOOKING like the most wonderful people on earth.
Some amateur documentarian is probably drooling at the prospect of documenting all this…
Hollywood’ll probably do some sort of in-bad-taste action movie, casting famous actors with CG’d gills and stuff.
For some reason, I’m reminded of Daniel Tiger, 1968. “What does ‘assassination’ mean?”
Tom Cruise IS Plo Quar in “Vengence Under The Sea!”
uh, sir? They live in lakes! And Plo Quar is female.
Hah! No one’s gonna care about that! And women don’t make box office!
*snort* Oh wow… 😀
Hard not to think of what’s happening in Gaza right now…
giant difference
No difference at all. Except the Sarnothi doing the purge are more human than the real life humans.
I think it’s an excellent little detail… that Amanda looks horrified. She’s not scared of the Sarnothi emerging… she is legitimately upset at the way they are being treated. I think this is going to cause her to reflect on the way she’s treated Selkie and, while nothing will immediately change, the progress she was already making will probably be solidified and she will be less likely to be xenophobic outright.
It’s a nice way to show the humanity inside her without completely upheaving her entire character and making her behave visibly contrary.
Kudos, Dave.
I-is that a Jin-Sorai in the background????????
….man…that’s so sad.
Yeah, it you want to watch something other than a horror story, the news is never what you want to turn to.
Is it winter in the story-timeline right now? 🙁
Yes, it’s still winter. (Verification: when they got to Todd’s apartment Selkie was wearing her winter cap and Amanda had earmuffs.)
So that third panel is exactly what it looks like. The refugees are emerging into falling snow. That’s not good. I hope the government has planned for this right.
Say, is Dr. Pohl getting to be Todd’s best friend?
That middle panel is one of the more heartbreaking visuals I’ve seen in this comic. The body language is incredibly well done.
What season is this happening in? I thought the cold makes Sarnothi immobile.
This is where the FBI mobilizes with heated vans and transport to the refugee camp.
There will be overcrowding, but at least they will be safe and warm.
I have a feeling that Pohl is gonna be called away for a while.
Late winter/very early spring. And they aren’t enjoying it too much, that at least is certain.
And it’s because of stuff like that that we watch horror stories.
This is the second most horrific thing I’ve seen in this comic.
The first, not that anyone asked, was the strip describing Behn Senior being “processed” by the fishermen who caught him.
At least these people are still alive, and being recognized as people.
🙁
