I am sorry about the half finished comic, everyone. I had a lot of events and family get-togethers over the weekend, and I kind of lost track of myself. As you can see, the comic is half finished, but since[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I always kind of feel like the drama moments of the comic teeter on an edge I can't quite articulate or describe. I feel they need to be very carefully handled... or they careen.
So, today is the 2nd anniversary of the first update of Selkie. Happy 2 years everyone! I can’t wait for more. 😀 I have a few art extras to share today. First is a bonus sketch by me. In following[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
More text bubble experiments, this time back to ovals but with thicker outlines. I think this may be a good mix.
My real life family is going through quite a few weddings right now. Little bit of the real world seeping in. XD
I went back to the old font and speech bubbles for now. I tried some of the hand-written fonts floating around, but I missed the crispness of the Lucida I've been using.
For those who don’t remember; Marta’s engaged. Nothing like waiting for the whole family to be together.
I used some selected Selkie comics for my senior art exhibition, and one of the criticisms an instructeor gave me during our oral defense was that he felt the vector speech bubbles and blocky Lucida font looked out of place with the hand drawn lines of the artwork. So I thought I'd give changing the font and speech bubbles a try.
Sometimes when I play Ahri in League of Legends (a champion based off korean mythology about a fox spirit who eats human livers), I like to yell FEED ME YOUR LIVERS! as a battlecry. Which probably says too much about[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Todd's dialogue on this page was borrowed from real life. I was INSUFFERABLE as a teenager.
And now you know of Todd’s dark past of being a stereotype.
Believe it or not, I have a backstory for that small table Selkie's sitting at. It used to be the "Kitchen Helper Corner" when Todd Marta and Antoine were little, and Mari got it out of storage for Selkie's visit.
I have learned that trying to draw comics while watching 80’s cartoons on Youtube does not work well for meeting deadlines. Thanks a lot Argus!
I've read in a few places that, if allowed to do so, characters can develop traits that will surprise even the author. Selkie's love of eating is one of those aspects of her character for me. She's shown on multiple occasions an excited and enthusiastic reaction to the prospect of eating. I don't know where it came from, but I feel like it's a part of her character that's asserted itself organically somewhere along the line.
I am sorry to do this, but this past weekend was packed with school-related stuff I had to do, and getting a regular comic done just kind of slipped away. I apologize for the unannounced sketch day, but don’t worry[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
See if you can find Wonder Woman's invisible jet. Hint: it's invisible.
Comic number 200, and it contains a cursing joke! 😀 It also (albiet briefly) contains Grandma and Grandpa, who were also in comic 100. Must be a thing for them. Thank you everyone for sticking with me through 200 comics.[…]↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I see a lot of my own humor and speech patterns in Marta. It doesn't show up much in the comic, but in the real world I could use a fudge-ripple swear jar.
