I know 8-year-olds with TS Full Polys because of who their parents are. Yes, kids can be expected to keep a secret and understand the WHY too. Of course, I know at least one because he can open a satellite with his laptop and make it tap dance. Scary little kid who gets computers better than I do.
A) He has known for some time that SOMETHING is going on with Selkie. At some point, he’s probably gotten somewhat used to “strange things go on around here, and I just have to deal with it.”
B) He may well have had a minor freak-out, but then composed himself.
C) Even if he were to freak out at Todd and Andi, what good would it do? Theo definitely seems like the sort of person to see that, and try not to let it get to him.
Since he might be thinking that Amanda’s barrette is doing it, it might be easier to comprehend than her actual eyes and brain doing it. With cellphones and other things, there being weird technology is easier to believe than actual biological abilities.
Exactly! Todd really needs to tell Theo right now that “the barrettes aren’t the weapons, Dad, the girls are. The barrette is an inhibitor.” And leave it at that.
NDA’s are purposefully vague so that you’re always left to wonder if saying ANYTHING is gonna bite you in the behind down the road if found out. Or that the issuer of the NDA can add further events/abilities/information without having to re-issue and resign them.
Otherwise it would state something like: “I, Todd Smith, will not divulge that Nei’Li A.K.A. Selkie is of Sarnothi descent.”
And later: “I will also not divulge that she is an Echo”
Etc etc etc.
That would actually result in an NDA ten times the size of what Andi had to sign back in #1581 while those were NDA’s for 3 organizations.
I don’t know, I’m not a huge fan of having cameras like that around the house. I also know I’d personally dislike it if I didn’t know I was being recorded.
I have a video doorbell on the front door and then there’s a lamp by each entrance to the house that has a built in camera facing those doors. Anyone who has been in my house knows they are there because I feel like its a courtesy to let your guests know they are on camera.
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I dislike that police have the ability to tap into those doorbell cameras whenever they like, without warrant OR informing you (many US states are trying to make that illegal now, but you can’t put the genie back in the bottle) OR their proven track record of misusing that access.
On the other hand, my car was vandalized (destroyed, really) by a psycho criminal right in front of my house in the middle of the night (he felt he deserved revenge on me for calling the police on him for breaking into my house the day before. Criminal minds…) The police decided there wasn’t enough evidence to prove he’d done it in a courtroom, so he walks free even today. A doorbell camera would have caught him and provided the needed evidence.
Bless Grandpa Theo. “I know, more or less. I won’t push it. But tell your people we’re prepared to sign NDAs, too.”
That’s going to make things a lot less awkward
Expecting 8 year-olds to properly handle a security clearance is silly. Then again, this is quite realistic in how the government operates.
Not to mention realitic in how 8 year olds operate.
(Wait… are they 9 now?)

Looks like Jonathan & Martha are going to have some competition soon…
Theo’s oddly calm about all this.

His granddaughter is of the same species as those folks in the Lakes who just recently did that huge-a*s skybeam. Dude’s not dumb.

So close.
Well, technically they’re ANTI-laser barrettes…

Except that outright telling him that would probably go against the NDA.
Better to say something like: “Dad, I can’t tell you yet, but you are fundamentally wrong in your assumption.”
….. or would that be against the NDA too? Just what does the NDA actually say?

Forgot the “eventually” in that last sentence.
Also, one would have to sign every addendum everytime.
So that’s why it is put vaguely 🙂
It always amuses me when people think old people are like totally clueless and dumb, like how do you think they Got to be old?
Could I get you to tell that to MY grandkids?

I moved to a better neighborhood, incidentally.
the ring doorbells cannot be accessed by the police at any time they DO require a warrant every time.
you dont have a full wood shop. Liability issues ect.
