Will update with colors later, I spent too much time fine-tuning the amount of garbage in the dialogue.

SELKIE: Ugh! Bleargh! GROOOSSSSS!
KAREN: You know, I think it’s just SHAMEFUL when people feel like they need to make a scene of this “sarnothi” business.
KYLE: I agree.
KYLE: Parading them around just to show off how “progressive” they are. Despicable.
KYLE: We are privileged to be living through First Contact, one of the most momentous times in modern history, and SOME PEOPLE have to treat it as a status symbol.
KAREN: It’s sad, really.
KAREN: They’d be better off back with their own kind than being somebody’s smug virtue-signal.

Uh oh. That CANNOT end well.
Okay Karens. Ya’ll progressing into little ****s.
Get them, Todd.
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
“Todd approaches the Karens with “barely suppressed rage” it looks like the Karens are in for a bad ti- what’s this? It’s Selkie from the other corner… and she’s got a CHAIR!”
I’m hoping for either grandma/grandpa or their aunt to kick their ass instead. Verbally ass kicking preferred.
Ooh! Or Amanda! Amanda, show your smarts!
It’s definitely a bad idea for Selkie to go spit acid at them but they deserve it.
I honestly love the idea of it being Amanda! I can’t wait until Friday!
Yes, THIS!
Dave, you have to do this. Scrap whatever plans you had and do THIS!
“Madam, we are having a pleasant family dinner, I would appreciate you not interfering with your false piouity (sp?) Selkie, did you try the ____? I know you looking forward to it.”
Piety.
What we have here are concern trolls IRL.
Not sure which I would prefer.
Todd to flash back to his youth, and go beat the crap out of them.
Amanda to go beat the crap out of them.
Selkie to go spit on them.
Or maybe all three at the same time.
I too hope it’s Amanda. “Nobody talks crap about my little sister but me!”
That would be so good, I am hopeful this happens!
NOpe, I’m hoping it’s the One that wants the 500k Scoville units and 3 pints of beer. NEVER piss off the short little Asian girl who got the attitude problem and is 3 pints into her night. She MAY climb your dumb ass and claw your eyes out.
Just to clarify, Marta is biologically South American, not Asian.
Otherwise, yeah, absolute eye-gouging.
@Dave…okay thats even funnier a short little Latina 3 pints in is even MORE dangerous they are like hand grenades.. do not mess with.
I don’t approve of assulting people because they have a poor opinion of you. That would also just reinforce their opinion.
At some point in the last couple of years, I noticed society has been taking a significantly violent view on these topics and it’s disheartening at best.
I don’t disagree, but in a fictional setting this is proven to help as an outlet for those feelings so they’ll spill over less into real life.
Just my arrogant opinion, but I have a lot of stressors in my life. One way I get to valve off some of the steam, (besides steam engines), is in fantasy comics. And watching these two smug self-important patronizing patrons get their hats handed to them, would allow me to cheer on what would feel good in the fantasy, but would be illegal, unjust, and wrong to do IRL. If it was real life, Gollum and Frodo would have tussled, and Samwise would have snatched the ring and fallen over the edge and been destroyed with the ring. Instead, Sam a Frodo struggled and Gollum took the ring over the edge, allowing us to have a feel-good ending where Gollum gets to stop his suffering, kill the ring, and send our heroes home. Kinda like the catharsis of Ancient Greek theatre, only in Dave’s webcomic.
Which is why Amanda defending her dad and sister would be *perfect*. Golden, even, when she actually calls Selkie “sister” while doing it.
sorry Jeremy. some people just need an ass beating.
If more people had been smacked as children, then they would know that as an adult that is still an option for them to get smacked
Definitely Amanda
D:<
I don’t know where to begin. Other than that barely-concealed speciesism masquerading as self-righteousness is disgusting.
The really disgusting thing is how true it is. We don’t have Sarnothi in our world, but we do have these people.
Hey now, Todd was adopting sarnothi BEFORE it was cool.
The term for “complaining about virtue signalling” is “vice signaling”.
That’s brilliant. I kind of want to use that term now. But wait, would that be “Indicating vices you may or may not posses for negative(?) brownie points” (inverse virtue-signaling) or would that be “‘Calling out’ other people on perceived vices” (signaling the vices of others) or would that be “Griping about others’ actions and accusing them of virtue signaling is a vice in itself”?
Good lord I hate people like this. I really hope the karma stick hits them hard upside the head. -_-
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has them, some of them stink.
Thank goodness. Before now, Selkie hadn’t met ‘humanity.’
And now we get to see the scaly clammy underbelly of the society Todd lives in. I simply cannot decide WHO would be -best- to have go and have an attitude adjustment for those two. The list is too long.
i want todd to start to get up but grandma or better yet amanda beats him to the punch.
Well okay, that stuff they said is technically true, but it doesn’t really apply here. Yeah we can all see the irony on how sjws use “morals” to thinly veil their need for superiority while these people use sjws to thinly view their racism. Idunno if the archetypical sjw actually exists or just madeup by sjws to use against anyone who complains against them but I wouldn’t know since I’m not too social. Hey you know what we should do? We should do what otakus did to differentiate themselves from weaboos and use the term reverse sjw.
Oh sorry, I thought I was making a general comment.
Hello venomous bigotry, haven’t seen you since the incident at the fresh water pool with the life guard I think. Mostly just the more vanilla variety of micro aggression recently I think. *repeatedly beats down my urge to rant about real life cross over stuff with a croquet mallet*
If its a microaggression it shouldn’t matter some people are just passive-aggressive.
.If it’s macro aggression respond with macro violence.
THIS is a Macro Agression.
It’s okay – they’re idiots and their opinions don’t matter.
For the first time ever, I find myself questioning the intent of a strip in this series.
How so?
And what “intent” did you imagine it to have before? I am genuinely curious.
I feel very sorry for Selkie, but I look forward to the verbal and possibly real beatdown those bigoted P.O.S.’s are about to get from three generations.
I kinda hope Grandma throws down on them. She might get them hiding under their table.
I don’t think that term means what they think it means. Now for example, going around in public and loudly introducing a sarnothi as your “sarnothi friend” (especially if you refer to them by that term) after saying or doing something that is racist as proof that you are not racist, I frown about. Taking a sarnothi, whether adopted child or friend, out for fun or a meal is NOT equivalent to that. One is just living your own life while the other is trying to use a person as a prop to excuse socially frowned on behavior. Sorry if this is diving into what you didn’t want the comments to talk about Dave.
I could picture Amanda uncorking on the Karen’s. It’s a really satisfying picture. Honestly any member of Todd’s family is equipped for this battle.
sometimes if you just let the big long-haired redneck do his thing you can keep the Ignorant wokies AND the Other rednecks in check. When this happens please tag me in.

Were you so pleased with your reply to DcSensai of five minutes prior that you just had to cut-and-paste it to make it a post of it’s own?
Because ideally you both shouldn’t have been and shouldn’t have.
Please accept my sincere apologies, I did not see your follow-up reply to DcSensai at first.
Oh, and being stuck in a restaurant with some closeted bigots engaged in virtue signaling is so nice? I can think of quite a few things to say, and who may end up saying them, but will keep quiet until we see how the family deals with this.
(I always worry that if I correctly predict what a writer has planned, they’ll change it…)
I wouldn’t say they’re “closeted bigots”, being so open and blatant about it in a public venue.
Nor are they “virtue signalling” – that last speech bubble is still them – they’re the ones complaining (quite incorrectly, of course) about the adults at Todd’s table virtue signalling.
Friday’s comic can’t come soon enough; I haven’t anticipated a new episode this much in ages!
I’m with everyone else, for the most part. I want to see Grandma or especially Amanda unleash a verbal, rather than physical, onslaught on them, muahahaha! >:D
Question, because I don’t live in the USA and I don’t know how things are going over there:
I’ve seen that kind of behavior demonstrated in media before. I think it’s usually webcomics, and I think it’s rarer in TV series and movies, although I don’t watch a lot of TV so I could be wrong. Someone says something blatantly racist/specist/sexist/homophobic in public, often making a loud comparison about how good THEY are. Another character steps up to tell the bugot to stuff it.
My question is: how often does this happen in real life? I’m not talking about anti-LGBT protests, shootings of innocent black people for no reason, book/flag burnings etc, I know these happen because they reach the news. But how often does one witness a bigot so blatantly say something so stupid in a public place for no reason? It just seems so weird…
Thanks!
you hear it once in a while. oddly it’s usually from someone ostensibly on the left. Ask Brad Torgerson about some of the shit wokies pulled on him accusing him of being racist for having biracial kids and a black wife “as a shield” Ask his wife about the wokies calling her an uncle tom.. and accusing her of covering for him. Happens to me too. Everything from Accusing me of dating a younger black guy. Which pissed Not only ME off but my stepson. (I was giving the kid a driving lesson, 24 years old the kid couldnt drive a car we stopped and grabbed tacos when we took a break from him chauffeuring me around the county) One guy accused me of picking up a hooker. Was picking up my stepdaughter… the dumb fucker had a Biden sticker on his little prius. I nearly broke that fuckers jaw.. I should have let my stepdaughter do it but she might have killed his ass.
Alright. As someone who personally despises virtue-signaling (adopting a kid is NOT a virtue signal) and faux-progressiveism (I.e. racism hiding behind anti-racist phrasing) I gotta say…
Those two are being legit racist. Also my bets on Amanda starting to berate them to show just how much she has grown as a person followinf up with Grandpa coming in and telling her to stop because ignorant trash like them aren’t worth a lick of their time. Then when the idiots try to call Grandpa a coward Todd shows where Amanda’s temper comes from and illustrates why you don’t piss off the teddy bear.
One time, I was in the library (back when you could go to the library) working with someone I tutor on his English skills. Part way through, one of his kids called, and he spoke to them briefly in Korean. And then someone nearby started talking about how when THEIR grandparents came to this country, they learned to speak English and stopped speaking because THEY knew that was part of being in America…
Pissed me right off. In addition to being a dumbass opinion, my student was literally there to be tutored in English. What more do you want? I didn’t know how to respond, though, in part because my student didn’t pick up on what was being said himself. I thought I might say something to them after our lesson, but they had left by then.
Goddamn, this comment section is hard to navigate on a phone–that was meant to be a reply to Glass.
It’s alright. Still a very good point. Though we’re I in that situation I would have spoken up and said “Excuse me, I’m his English tutor. You should apologize to this man this instance because he is trying to do as you want!” Then again I’m not very patient with obvious BS.
OOOOOH when this happens IRL please feel free to tag someone like Me in.
*Walks to table of offensive jerks.*
“Pardon me you racist bigots… would you like more or less prejudice with your knucklesandwich, and would you like some extra bigotry on your virtue signaling racist side dish or no?”
*Commences to put fists in faces… repeatedly.*
Honestly there’s probably nothing to be gained by confronting patrons at a different table in a restaurant.
Personally I wouldn’t worry about whether or not they could hear me talking *about* them, but I make bad decisions.
To be honest, I can’t think of anything that I could say about them that wouldn’t end up being a “one-upmanship” and basically to assauge my own feelings rather than do anything productive. Someone else might be able to make a good quip, but I normally can only think of something later on, normally right before bed. I agree that there is nothing to be gained from confronting them. It is hard to not try to defend yourself either verbally or physically when someone insults your intentions like that. Sometimes getting into some form of a fight with them about it just reinforces their belief that they were right and doesn’t do any good. Not that staying silent is a good option either. Maybe the question is whether they are trolls and do you feed them.
Seriously, do people like this actually exist? Not just bigotry but this anti-sjw archetype. Personally I’ve come to strongly suspect that it’s been invented by sjws to slander anyone who speaks out against them, infact the closest that I’ve come was reading a post from a clearly mentally unstable man who was using the sjw title on his opponent simply because they were genderfluid. (To be clear, trans isn’t synonymous with sjw, infact many trans people hate them including apparently said genderfluid that I talked to.)
People who snub progressives with projected notions of insincerity do exist.
If you subscribe to the Horseshoe Theory (which says that political alignments fall on a horseshoe-shaped curve, and the two far-extremes are closer to each other than they are to the center), then these would be the people who sit on the opposite end of SJWs.
Sadly, I’m not even surprised there are people acting like this. There are people who believe you shouldn’t adopt people who aren’t the same race as you. I could easily see people making a fuss about interspecies adoption.
Anyways, I’m interested in seeing how this gets handled.
So what exactly do they expect him to be doing? Avoid interacting with Sarnothi?
Naw. It ain’t virtue-signaling. The family isn’t drawing attention to the fact that one of the girls is sarnothi or any of the other pathetic methods virtue-signaling idiots like to use.
