Benny: I have never been so choice-paralyzed in my life.
Selkie: So, you don’ts see that? The rainbow-y stuffs?
Sai Fen: You can see that?!
Selkie: You can sees it too, Miss Sai Fen?
Sai Fen (VO): No, but Pohl sometimes can. It’s a side-effect of being an Echo. He says it pops up sometimes when people feel very strong emotions.
Sai Fen: Seeing it means you’re making progress!! I can’t wait to tell him!
Selkie: Eeeee!
Avery: We probably have about ten minutes until Benny’s brain resets. Dance with me, love?
Carrie: Y-Yes.
Benny (tranced): Heads... tails... heads... tails...

Was going to have Benny use "eeny meeny miney moe", but I vaguely recall hearing that has questionable origins, so I opted out of it.
Lol, even the placeholder says so much
Regarding the full comic, I adore how happy Sai Fen is for Selkie
“Oh, never mind, the colors are gone now.”
(This comment will make no sense once Dave has updated the page with the properly colored image.)
“Mom, why did the pretty ladies make me feel funny?”
“…A-ask Avery…”
Right?!?
I’m pretty sure at this point Benny has that figured out, he’s what, 13 or 14?
So is that Brown boldly asking the lovely lady to dance?
He does know about the not kissing bit, right? Or is he smitten so much he
Decided that doesn’t matter??????
Avery does know about the saliva issue, but they make it work despite the differences.
Also I apparently forgot the “kssht” again. sigh
… and to make the speech bubble a rectangle. 😉
That’s his wife 😉
Bassoon: who was that piccolo I saw you with last night?
Flute: That was no piccolo, that was my Fife!
(SFX: crickets chirping)
Henny, I tried!
[comically long shepherd’s crook reaches for Geneseepaws]
Manager: you wanna be on a stage?
Genesee: yessir, acting’s in my genes.
Manager: Good! Here’s two dollars, I want you on the next stage headed out of Dodge.
“Who was that ladle I saw you with last night?”
“That was no ladle; that was my knife.”
—
from a very old (1950s-vintage) Martin and Lewis comic book
Long ago, ie. before radio and television were popular, people of all sorts had ethnic and regional accents. Radio and TV have worked hard in the last 100 years to dreads all that. And SOME of that is bad, some good, some VERY necessary. Some of the humor was used to re:enforce stereotypes, to keep minorities down on the social ladder. I’m glad that is going out of fashion. But some of it was really funny!
Benny, dance with both of them!
*sound of brain going *BAAAANG*
Wonderful news for Selkie! And poor Boggled Benny, will he choose heads or tails I wonder? 😀
he’s a MALE.. of COURSE he gonna choose a TAIL…
So I’ve been writing a novel (or twelve) and I cannot tell you how much inspiration I get from the relationships in your comic, both that they exist and how they develop!
Benny’s on the threshold of another quantum leap in maturation, but he’s not yet ready to take the leap to *BOTH*!
Both. requires a level of swagger and brazeness that a 13 year old is highly unlikely to have.
Next page is the twins approaching Benny, him being even more flabbergasted, then a mischievous/knowing look between the twins, followed by “dance with us”
Benny is speechless, barely able to manage to stay upright (which isn’t as much of an issue when you’ve swimming) and is seen being dragged off by the two of them in the background of the last panel, while Important Matters ™ continue in the foreground.
At least that’s my stab in the dark about what Monday (or Wednesday, since Monday is a holiday) will hold for us.
Lol you have my vote
This is what America needs in these Dark Times! Adolescent boy, confused by what he wants, played for laughs by identical twins of a more knowing type: Dave Warren is the one who can make this Happen. Throw your support behind Dave Warren for The Eisner Award! I will!
My name is Gene C’Pausce, and I approved this message.

Don’t count the chickens before they hatch, kid.
Y’know, I’m curious about Carrie’s stutter. Is it due to struggling with English, or a result of trauma, or has she simply always had it?
