Three Years before them. But Selkie’s been with humans for, like, 7 years or something. Basically, all of the others have been living with humans for a lot longer than Selkie thought.
mmm… no, I think it was 3 years at the orphanage before she was adopted by Tod. She’s eight years old.
So… I guess there’s the implication that they were already out of the water months before the current refugee crisis, but I’m not sure that wasn’t mentioned already. I seem to recall Agent Smith saying that things learned by Selkie during her difficult time in the orphanage helped other children who came after.
My interpretation is that she’s just latching onto this revolutionary idea of her being the one teaching… like a crazy mad scientist with minions… (
….Oooor could be Savail’s observation lower down. 😛
Honestly enough time passes between updates I have a hard time remembering small details from past pages, like how well Tehk does or doesn’t speak English. 🙁
Naw, cause he previously mentioned how he hates how everyone looks at them odd for how they talk. I’m leaning to someone actually cares and practiced. Unlike a stubborn drama queen. :p
Well, I see speech therapy has been going really well for Tehk. Or has he secretly always been able to do this and he just wanted to one-up Selkie at just the right moment, hehe?
I highly doubt he’s been secretly always been able to do this. Especially since he’s previously displayed his displeasure with how they don’t talk like everybody else. I could seem him practicing a lot because he wants to one up Selkie.
Haha, yeah, that’s what I honestly figured happened. He definitely seems the type to work extra hard to integrate better and also just to show everyone else up. I was joking about the ‘secretly always been able to’ thing, don’t worry!
keep in mind, going with the classic movie, the Blues Brothers, he has two middle names. Jesus H (Human) Tap-dancing Christ. Of course this is only used when someone has seen the light.
I think I get what’s going on – Tehk has been able to adapt to English grammar more quickly because he’s only just started learning the language, with teachers who actively draw his attention to the grammatical differences, while Selkie’s got a few years of “speaking English with Sarnothi grammar” to unlearn.
I wouldn’t say it’s a grammar issue, though I’m not sure if it’d compare more to a speech disorder or an accent. For accents (and grammar, for that matter), it’s generally the case that earlier exposure would have a favorable impact, though. There is also just a different in effort and adaptability since taking the classes. The difference in their speech did seem to bother Tehk more, so that part makes sense.
Dave, I don’t have twitter, but I read the tweets. I would like to encourage you please not worry about the comic today(Friday), unless it will really frazzle you to not do it. We can wait til Monday, please take today off, and do what you need to do to take care of this. I hope everyone involved is okay.
Please take all the time you need, Dave. I would be worked up too if that happened to me. Relax, take some time off, treat yourself, do a self-care day. Make this about you 🙂
DAVE TAKE TODAY OFF MAN. We can wait til Monday especially under these circumstances. I hope everyone is safe and uninjured and things go well. Breathe. We’re good.
What scares me about it is I am 100% certain we’ve been cased out and could potentially still be having someone watch for an opportunity to try again. There’s no way it’s a coincidence this happened during a two hour window when no one was at the house.
Consider putting everything of real value in storage and getting an alarm service. Timing like that usually means you have a neighbor who thinks there is something valuable in your place, and they often won’t stop until they break in or they get caught in the act by police.
No matter how long she’s been there, nobody’s ever addressed her speech patterns before. So she’d have no reason to correct it! I’m reminded of Dick Van Dyke, when informed as to how bad his”Cockney” accent was in “Mary Poppins,” said; “Hey! I was on the set with three English actors, and not one of them commented on my accent!”
She has been advised multiple times once she was adopted that her speech is incorrect, and she fights it tooth and nail that she’s not speaking normal. I wish I could find the comic where she adds extra plurals to everything when Todd brings it up, making her completely non-understandable. If I can find it after work, I’ll let you know.
Yipes. Hopefully the burglar wasn’t able to make off with too much stuff and you guys are all doing okay.
I once ran into a burglar at the conference center I worked at. They ran off once they noticed me, but they must have come back later because the big projector went missing afterwards.
Dave please don’t worry about Friday’s comic, we can totally hold it til monday. Take time off you had a major thing happen and you have every right to take the time and deal with the IRL stuff.
Hope everyone is okay and that nothing important is gone or damaged. Glad you weren’t there for it. Hugs from afar.
Neither have I… what is he referring to?
What did I miss?
I meant “she” obviously… “What is she referring to?”
Three Years before them. But Selkie’s been with humans for, like, 7 years or something. Basically, all of the others have been living with humans for a lot longer than Selkie thought.
At least, that’s how I’m interpreting it.

Is she referring to the “you should be teaching us” part?
I like Jesus Human Christ. 😀
She’s referring to his lack of pluralses.
I did not notice that! XD
…was he just pretending before?

So THAT’S what the ‘H.’ stands for!
Funny, I always thought it was “Haploid”.
I always called him Herbert.
It stands for “Hallmark,” because God cared enough to send the very best!
keep in mind, going with the classic movie, the Blues Brothers, he has two middle names. Jesus H (Human) Tap-dancing Christ. Of course this is only used when someone has seen the light.
I remember Harlan Ellison having a character refer to “Jesus Jumped-up Christ on a pogo stick!”
Well well, someone has been practicing!
I don’t get it no matter how many tiles I read the same thing.
I’m missing the entire point of this page as it is too cryptic.
Oops. Should hve read “times” not “tiles”.
Alternate idea: she’s just trying to get him to back up and repeat the swear word in front of the teacher.

Wait when did this happen

Who tries to rob someone when everybody is home social distancing? Glad you’re ok!

Eeeee.
Maybe consider a sting operation, where you ask the cops to send their “plain” car around while y’all go out for a while? Eeeeeeee.
Stay safe!

Found it! (Yeah I’m a few days late, sorry…)

I’m with DVD! I didn’t think his accent was all that bad– at least I could tell what it was.
Sympathies, Dave. (Sign of the times- I was initially more scandalised that someone was breaking social distancing than robbing people!)

Agreed with Blue Coyote!
I hope no one was hurt. This is s serious stressors. Take care of yourself and family 1st.
