Soon Selkie’s palate will expand to birdses, cowses, maybe even kangarooses.
(A friend of mine told me over the weekend about how he had tried kangaroo steak in Iowa and he thought it was really good. I’m a bit curious about it now. Anyone here eaten kangaroo?)
I decided to add a few touches to the apartment that I didn't fully think about previously (appliances, functional handles on the stove and refrigerator, etc). I have learned that I can not draw can openers.
I have eaten kangaroo and its very good. If you get the chance to try it i would recomend it
I’ve had kangaroo jerky. It was really good.
Todd’s a nice dad to do that. I’m not really a fan of the weird tattoo, though.
I think that is his chest hair.
😉
LOL — No, the tattoo on his *back*. The T&A one. Todd and Andi, I assume. But… Tits and ass seems funny enough.
Too bad her name didn’t start with an S so he could now say it stood for Todd and Selkie 😉
My best friend had some while he was in Australia, he said it was damn good.
Yeah, I’ve eaten Kangaroo. XD But, I’m Australian, so almost everyone has at least once. Gotta say, it’s not my favourite meat though.
Yeah, it’s a bit too tough to be really enjoyable…
Oh no, Selkie page 134…
:-O
lol, joking, I dunno why but this page made me laugh.
On the topic of unusual meats, I feel compelled to note that, while I’ve never tried kangaroo, raw horse is far tastier than you’d think. Elk, boar, and bison are all pretty good, too, but they’re not really that uncommon in the US.
I’m going to go with Caribou on this one. That stuff’s delicious.
Lots of times (I live in australia and can buy it from the meat section of my local Coles supermarket).
It tastes a bit odd at first, but once you get used to the taste, it’s excellent. It’s also very low in fat.
At least she’s easy to feed!
I had kangaroo in a meat pie once. It was a bit gamey, like venison. The gator pie tasted like fish.
Swan also tastes rather fishy.
Hedgehog is rather like rabbit thigh.
…we’re rather a carnivorous community, aren’t we?
Yeah, I feel like now I need a page referencing Todd’s vegetarian preferences to balance it out. XD
I love the way we’re really beginning to see the comic’s art evolution. It’s great, like archive blitzing Questionable Content. It’s great seeing you improve.
Thanks! I try to do a little better each strip. Glad it’s showing. 😀
As above, Kangaroo Jerky is excellent… had a steak of it once, but I don’t like steak, so I feel biased on it’s nature. I’ve also had snake, ‘gator, and I’ve caught my own Crawdads/Crayfish (lots of people haven’t had them, apparently).
I’m interested in the fact that people don’t like the tats… it seems strange to me.
Kangaroo is delicious. It’s very dark, and has no fat. It’s a fairly healthy meat. No fat means you have to be careful how you cook it but if you get it right, it makes a wonderful meal.
I have~
It’s nice – a strong flavor, very dark, very lean.
It’s overcooked easily though.
Nope, never had Kangaroo meat. I can’t imagine eating it either.
Today’s comic was really cute, Todd makes such a good dad.
This morning conversation reminds me of my dad – he and I had a habit of referring to odd dreams we’d had as if they were real, as in “You know that meteorite that landed in our backyard last night? There’s some mean purple worms inside, you might want to avoid it when going to the car”. Even though I no longer live at home, we still continue the tradition via texting. 😛
Kangaroo is REALLY REALLY GOOD. It’s very lean protein and very flavorful.
Never tried kangaroo, but buffalo is very tasty!
Unicorn steak!
Is that code for “vegetarian”?
If not, you’re not a very nice Narnian…!
It took me a bit to register this, but I now recall the bit in Harry Potter about how eating unicorn destroys your soul.
Still, for a good steak… 😀
Hm… Selkie’s dialogue seems too immediate in panel 4. I thought he’d have a lead in question like “How did you sleep?” and she starts to tell her dream. It seems she already did and she’s finishing up in panel 4 but his dialogue in 4 and 5 discount this.
I love that he still has bed-head, LOL:)
I just realized something, Dave: now that everything is pink with pink text, you can’t tell links from normal non-linked text. Like my name has a link to it but no one can tell because it is pink like all the other text. Is this on purpose or is it a slightly different text color which my monitor/IE is not accepting?
It should be pink background and purple/violet text. I’ll look into it.
I’ve tried putting things in to make links stand out more, but the problem is I only know how to do it so EVERY link is affected. Comic titles, reply links, calendar dates, archives, everything. It makes things look strange to me.
I’ll see if I can figure out or look up a way to mark name links only, but I dunno if I can at the moment. Sorry.
My monitor also shows links as the same color as text, if that’s any help.
I also see a pink background and violet text, and it’s not the easiest in the world to read. The background is a little too much, there’s not quite enough contrast. I usually read your strip via a RSS feed where that’s not an issue.
I tried making all the links automatically underlined, but figured making the default text black would probably work better. That help the contrast issue?
dont worry, ill still visit if noone else will XP
Lemme know if that looks better, changed the text to regular black.
i think it looks nicer but oddly it feels like its missing something
looks good to me
I guess my thinking is that the “see your friends again” line leads into her remembering what came after that in the dream sequence. But yeah, I can see how it’s a bit non sequitur. XD
Actually, this reminded me of my own kids. They insist on talking to you while in the bathroom, and then get really upset when you only catch the last line of what they’re saying as they round the corner and they have to start over. LOL I just figured she was talking in the bathroom and finishing when she came in the kitchen.
I’ve never had kangaroo, but I’ve had Bison. Best steak I’ve ever had.
kangaroo is really tough, so if you do eat it you should have it cooked medium rare or rare. any more and it will be like chewing leather. and you know this is true souce im an Auzzie
IImmmm BBBBAAAACCCCKKKKK.
The Christopher molina is back and now hes better then ever, lol my internet finnaly got fixed so yyyaaaaayyyy!!!^_^
Yay! Congrats!
i see the cat lived XD
Elk pepperoni from a certain butcher in kelso WA rules!
Hehe… it looks like Todd’s hair is climbing higher in every panel he’s in XD
As for the can opener, the view in panel 4 looks pretty good, though i had to see the tuna can there before i realized what it was in panel 3.
Still loving the comic, just haven’t really had much to say lately.
I’ve never had kangaroo, but a couple months ago in Mexico I did sample some donkey. It was a bit tough but didn’t taste half bad.
Secret family recipe, Roo tail stew. Cooke similar to lamb shanks untill the meat falls off the bones. Mmmmm…
In terms of odder foods, the best I have was mountain lion and bear. Can’t remember very well how either was prepared, though. I do recall that the bear was so gristly I couldn’t enjoy it, but the mountain lion didn’t leave enough of an impact on me to remember it still.
If it helps Bear depends on both how it is cut and how it is cooked … mess up in one and the meal goes south fast … also had Emu, moose, bear, deer of course, Elk, Rabbit, eel … and that is about it for odder foods. Emu makes a good pepperoni mind you.
Tofurkey is pretty good. If you’re not into eating meat. Also Soyrizo (melissa’s) is really good.
Personally, I really like Trader Joe’s Soy Chirizo! Spicy though!
oh meats are a favorite of mine i enjoy the more traditional meats but ELk,Deer, eel , Squid Snails, Croodile,Shark, buffalo, and boar are all the more unique ones i’v had though a neaby butcher shop recently got some Ostrich i bleave and been meaning to give it a shot
I had kangaroo once in Australia. I’m opposed to eating it, but we were eating at my cousin’s house (‘m half Australian) and the entire family decided not to tell me what kind of meat we were eating until after dinner. It tastes kind of salty.
oh, also, a friend of mine had gator and she said it tasted pretty spongy.
I’ve had kangaroo- kind of like beef, but gamier. I liked it.
My vegan self is flinching at all these comments about meat. I like tofu.
If it helps, I love bean burgers too. 😀
LOL, we flinch at you too:)
Kangaroo is tasty. It’s often served with beets … at least this was the only way I saw it served when I was in Australia
Noooo, not kangaroo, but I’ve had American Bison!
(The only endangered species you are encouraged to eat!)
I’ve had kangaroo sliders with a bleu cheese crumble on top. Very nice.
Her father might look at a local meat market’s “exotic” section. Selkie might enjoy, for example, alligator tail steaks.
