Frenzy can apparently break apart Devastator, so I can see Marta’s argument, even if it is wrong (I like Laserbeak)
Kin Ro's surname Tu'Daire means "I have good luck".
Frenzy can apparently break apart Devastator, so I can see Marta’s argument, even if it is wrong (I like Laserbeak)
And here I thought Tu’Daire might be Sarnothi for “tutor.” 😉
Also … were the markings ever explained beyond something Sarnothi develop as they mature? Selkie’s not alone in being curious about this one.
I don’t think so, but that’s a good point. I wonder if they’re passed down through family lines, or just random. Maybe they’re sex-linked traits, too. Have we seen any parent/adult child combos yet, maybe in the settlement? The closest I can think of is Benny, and his are still developing. The spots on his cheekbones could stay as spots like his mom’s, or turn into large curved triangles like his dad’s, or go in a completely different direction entirely.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and Monday’s update will answer all our marking-related questions!
Having the speech therapist be another sarnothi actually solves a lot of the potential pitfalls with this. 😀
Huh.
I just thought of something
If face markings develop as an effect of puberty in all the other clans…doesn’t that mean that Mor’Kama have baby-faces as a racial/clanial trait?
And are the clans like breeds of dog? Subspecies? Races?
I love that the speech therapist is another Sarnothi – great idea, Dave!
“OMG, Selkie, you can’t just ask someone why they’re blank!”
This has got to be kind of awkward for Selkie. While the others are being thrust into human culture, she’s being thrust into Sarnothi culture, and the expectations are probably higher for her since it’s her heritage, so she “should” already know this stuff. :/
yeah, it never occured to me, but selkie is in a kind of shi#y position – while she´s an expert in human culture, she looks too alien to blend in, yet she clearly lacks the necessary knowledge to fit in among her own kind. she´s basically stuck in the middle ;-(
Yeah, this is the experience of a lot of kids of color who are adopted by white people, or even who grow up in communities that are heavily white.
um, not to sound horribly ignorant, but is that really such a big thing in the U.S? i mean black+white are mere skin colours, it shouldn´t mean you´re part of a different culture or social background
Sadly, yes. In US culture it generally does mean exactly that. “Generally” because I’m sure there are exceptions, and I know anecdotal evidence is worthless but this has been my observation over the years.
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right,
Here I am, just stuck in the middle,… being me.
Neither flesh nor fowl, nor good red herrings,
It isnt easy being periwinkle.
I always look at that guy as having decapitated a frightened robot and welded it to his left chest.
Hahahhaha
I love the Mor’Kama mint colored skin.
Have there been clan wars over whether the Frenzy is red or blue?
I know enough about geewun to know that the most important thing.
We didn’t have these problems in Beast Wars, see.. Just as long as you didn’t get confused about the Silverbolt that was part of Magnaboss and the other Silverbolt who was a bird dog.
TRUKK NOT MUNKY.
SOUNDWAVE IS SUPERIOR! (Yes, it has to be in all caps)
Ravage is the best, but I love every cassetticon. Have you read the IDW comics? They gave Laserbeak and Buzzsaw personalities like Statler and Waldorf. It’s hilarious.
(But Ravage is still the best. I love him in G1, in Beast Wars, and in the IDW comics. He basically adopted Soundwave in the comics, which is amazing.)
Well, she *had* good luck, until Selkie got assigned to her class.
Okay, now I’m completely thwarted by the reference on the last panel…
It’s a sarnothi word we do’t know yet. Probably something really rude, lol.
I figured more their version of the Bogeyman?
Sarnothi meaning of the Frenzy, which is what Te Fahn is talking about:
https://selkiecomic.com/comic/halloween-2018/
…in other words, to a Sarnothi kid, they’re scary ghost-fish monsters of legend.
Human meaning of Frenzy (I had to google it because I am not the right age to know, but Dave has now provided references), which is what Selkie is talking about: Frenzy is the name of one of the Transformers, of a particular variety known as casseticons. Selkie herself is not into Transformers at all and doesn’t get who or what Frenzy is, but her Aunt Marta is a big fan, and she’s overheard her talking enthusiastically about that name.
The Frenzy that Te Fahn speaks of is the sarnothi equivalent of the Devil.
The Frenzy that Selkie is referring to is a Transformer. In the video clip he’s the smaller red and black one that leaps out of the chest cavity of the taller blue one (Soundwave). “Casetty-Can” is a (deliberate on my part” mispronunciation of Casseticon, whch is a type pf Transformer from the 1980s version that transforms into a reel-to-reel audio cassette tape and serves as a minion of a larger Transformer who themself transforms into a portable stereo/cassette player.
Oh, Ol’Siggy Freud wouldnt have anything to say about THAT, …no, nothing odd about that. Well, at least they have music to transform to.
Good tunes is a good thing.
Okay, so Selkie is more familiar with (American) modern pop culture than I am! XD (well, duh, obviously…)
I’m a smidge behind on the comic, but I wanted to comment anyway because someone has to say it:
Temporarily channeling the spirit of another famous webcomics David today, eh, Dave? 😀
I see we also have another student, Rahn, making a first appearance here. Is he also Mor’Kama?
If I remember correctly, the Mor’Kama are the priest caste. So is Te Rahn being superstitious or is she talking about another ethnic stereotype?
Lol, Dave. Their tutor’s name is her job: “Tu’Daire”.
