i´m curious about pohls ‘like us’ comment – does he simply mean they´ve got to help since they´re already established in the human world, and have a good life – or does he refer to both him+selkie being echos?
Looks like Selkie will be thrown right into the middle of the situation. It’s quite
likely that most if not all do not speak English and bilingual Sarnothi speakers will probably be in short supply.
Maybe, but given this school only got 10 new students out of that “mass exodus” I’m thinking some kind of screening took place and they only got the ones who already spoke English.
Geeeze, Dave, it’s like you think you get to have some sort of life “outside” the comic…. Oh! Wait! You do get to have one, … Never mind.
Dave, don’t panic. Remember you are doing this for love, not from duty. Don’t let your hobbies wreck stuff for your IRL. None of us need a colour comic to waltz into surgery and put someone back together. (Although I may stamp my feet and pout for a few minutes).
I am strongly reminded of when I was in high school in 1980 and we suddenly got a group of Iranian students added to our classes, I later realized was probably because their parents were fleeing the revolution in that country.
Dave! So I’ve been reading Selkie since early high school and for whatever reason, probably due in part to my old computer breaking and the stress of senior year, I stopped keeping up. I’ll be graduating college soon and the other day I told myself I should go back and try to catch up on Selkie since I was reminded how much I loved reading it (a friend of mine sang An Mhaighdean Mhara at her senior recital, an Irish tune recounting a variant of the selkie story, and that jogged my memory). So that’s exactly what I did. I figured out that I left off around 236, but I decided to just start from 1 a couple days ago and here I am at 1075 and just so happy to see how everything has developed and looking forward to the future!
I’m glad Amanda is party to this conversation between Selkie and Pohl… to hear him, a professional adult, explain how important it is for them, with their special skillset, to help these refugee children… and for Amanda to SEE how harsh it really is.
I think it will give her a closer bond with Selkie, and she becomes a more caring and supportive sibling.
This is Amanda’s chance to turn her bull-headedness, into a protective trait.
What an OPPORTUNITY for Amanda to learn about compassion and helping others. Hopefully she will step up to the plate.
Or at least see the opportunity for some Eliot Dunkel style Bully-Hunting.
Don’t knock it. Going with your strengths is a good thing. DIRECTED violence in the name of good has a long standing survival use.
We as a species would not be here if our first instinct would not be to help rather than hurt.
Still love the work-in-progress versions, so no worries here ^_^ it’s great to see the drawings before the color.

It sounds like he explicitly means echos — they are the ones in Sarnothi society who “look out for everyone’s good”, after all, yes?
Yes to the Echo one.

I’m thinking that chemical-free swimming pool will see a lot more business.

I like seeing work in progress drawings, so you’re good.
also woah.
“Anyone who throws a spitball gets Pantsed.”
Isn’t that a bit HARSH?! i mean, come on… getting your hand chewed off for throwing a spit ball?!?! that’s some sort tyranical punishment there dude…
PS: 😀 YES i’m JOKING… it’s not like they’re gonna give Pants the Eel a fish tank to live in at the school…
PPS: Or ARE they??? DUN, Dun, dun… The World May Never Know…
“May I present our new school mascot…”
“PAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTS!!”
Pants for school mascot, best idea ever!
Paaannnntttsssssssssssss
“…Hey, has anyone seen the opposing team today?”
[muffled ‘PAAAAAAANTS’ in the distance]
The amount that feels and pants now correlate to each other in my daily life is both hilarious and distressing.
I am strongly reminded of when I was in high school in 1980 and we suddenly got a group of Iranian students added to our classes, I later realized was probably because their parents were fleeing the revolution in that country.
“I AM PAAAAANTSED!”
I like seeing the sketches as well. I remember another strip having a second feed for the sketches. That’d be cool
I love the last sketch!!
Thanks! Had to replace it though. XD
I SEE your copy paste!! lol I kid, tho. Yes, sketches are neat to see! Also REEEE I now canot wait for mondaaay
Don’t give me your tired, your hungry, or your poor. And Don’t give me your huddled Animals yearning to breathe free….
Said no important person, ever.
No one of lasting moment or import thinks like that.

You know, I forget sometimes how long the comic’s been up. Hearing that it spans somebody’s school career is just crazy. Good crazy! 😀
Glad you came back to us, hope the upcoming strips continue to please.
