Session time for Selkie.
—–
One more reminder that I am taking a break-cation from both comics next week. Will have Guest art for Selkie during the update days next week, and Sue and Kathryn will just be kicking their heels up.
All it takes is one time.
Take care of yourself!
Well handled on Mina’s part, I think. Especially the “write your questions now, so you don’t forget (and don’t overwhelm Selkie)” part.
Mina is a kind teacher. I had lots of kind teachers in school… They are not particularly effective.
Mina is kind and SMART which is used to great effect, not only redirecting the students’ attention away from Selkie, but also to maintain the curious- I wanna know about it- feature of this news rolling. I hope Monday Next, we see some good questions from them.
Loving Mina, concerned about Jessie, laughing at Pohl. 🙂
i wonder who the poor sod will be that will have to answer all the kids absurd questions….maybe brown? hopefully not then though, he doesn´t strike me as good with kids 😉
Considering that Pohl s right there outside the school, I have to imagine that it’s him and he was at the school helping set it up.
I think that’s outside Todd and Selkie’s apartment. It’s not easy in black and white, but you can make out that they are coming to the top of a staircase.
Maybe it’s just the early-morning fugue making me crazy…
But for some reason…
I just envisioned Selkie’s mother being the guest speaker.
OH MY GOD, can you imagine the drama?!
Brain = out to lunch
Mind = blown
Intellect = Missing
Intelligence = -2
That is, … That just,… That’s …
Selkie’s Mama? I just
If this doesn’t happen, I will demand the fanfic writers get right on it!
That’s DOCTOR Pohl.
Well, maybe not on Your planet!*
* Dr. Zoidberg
Maybe this was asked and answered, and I missed it, but how does she get away with wearing sunglasses in class?
Yes, she needs them to hide her glowy eyes. Buy how do you explain that to the teacher? Or to everyone else at that school with any authority. Based on my memories of school, if she was walking down the hall some teacher or librarian or asst. coach would snatch them off – “Those aren’t allowed in the school!!”
1: For all that it happens, teachers aren’t actually allowed to just snatch things away from a student–especially articles of clothing.
Selkie’s father already jumped on a case of her being treated unfairly, and it cost the principal his job. I seriously doubt that a comparitivly less important and more easily replacable teacher, librarian, or costodial worker is gonna take the risk.
It’s also known that she’s special needs and people don’tnessesarily check those for exact details so they might be assuming.
Or it’s not actually against the rules at Selkie’s school because unlike chewing gum(which has been increasingly allowed in schools because it can help kids focus) there’s really no reason not to let kids wear sunglasses as long as they can still make out the board.
Or she’s one of the scary fish people and they dont’ want to piss her off less she eat them. Who knows.
It wouldnt surprise me if Dr Phol provided an excuse note for Selkie as he is her physician. Students with chronic migraines were always allowed to wear sunglasses in every school that I’ve attended.
My background logic is that Todd simply informed the school Selkie had developed a light sensitivity requiring the sunglasses to be worn. Never bothered to state that in-comic because it seemed too minor to devote panel time too.
Considering I have coworkers who wear sunglasses indoors because the darn lights give them migraines? Perfectly reasonable.
Dave’s explanation is fine.
Coworkers are, I presume, adults? Adults can do many things that school kids can’t.
And while I realize that schools have changed, “back when I was a kid” (cue up Flintstones theme music), in the 60s/70s, teachers would not allow sunglasses in class because they would not be able to see who is sleeping, and (more often the reason) they would not be able to see the “road maps where the eyes should be”, of the stoners.
I never understood the “not see whose asleep” thing.
Kid’sasleep they’re either leaning back or face down in their desk.Should be easy to tell.
Likewise, you should be able to tell if a kid’s stoned without having to see their bloodshot eyes and there are plenty of reasons why eyes might be bloodshot besides being stoned.
This is just so cute. Selkie’s so interested and happy to see an old friend, and Amanda’s finally getting used to things. I love this family. ?
Heh. Screamer friend.
And here we see just how important first impressions are.
I kinda hope he doesn’t hold that over her head forever. XD She was pretty wound up by the time she saw him.
Also wondering if kids’ll have the same reaction. Kinda hoping that they don’t.
She’s annoyed and a bit embarrassed at having been scared. But yes, depending on how things work out in the story, I could totally see him teasing a twenty-year-old Amanda the same way. By that time it would be a standing joke between them.
Running gag. :3 Could be funny as heck.
One time is all it takes, Todd. You become “that” friend forever. 🙂
Enjoy your time off, Dave!
Derp. Now that it’s colored, I can clearly see that is Amanda. Still. One time is all it takes. 😉
Interesting developments are being made
