someone explain the tv-station joke, please? also, its totes todd AND theo influencing selkie, not that she needs much encouragement, her own streak of mischief is a mile wide 😉
going by todds face in panel 2, i´d say he hasn´t bought a clue – yet – but its only a question of time. that fiery green glow Üis* rather unique after all….
The tv station call letters WFML – the letters start with a “W” to show that the station is based east of the Mississippi River (West of the river, stations start with a K. I don’t know why.)
The important bit is “FML” which is abbreviated slang for the cuss phrase “F8@k My Life” – which pretty much describes the entire news cycle these days. :/
Huh. I never knew there was supposed to be a pattern–we had one that started with W in my hometown, west of the Mississippi. I guess that station is one of the exceptions.
There are about a dozen misplaced callsigns, most of them were grandfathered in in the early 20’s. The westernmost W station is in San Antonio, I think.
Yeah, the FCC tends to get irritated at that kind of thing. San Jose had KOME for a long time (including a long list of FCC violations related to exactly what you think they would be related to.)
It actually was a decent station, I used to listen to it.
WFML (96.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Vincennes, Indiana, USA. The station airs an adult hits format and is currently owned by The Vincennes University …
Yep. I’d venture to say that most people who know the “I’m here all night, tip your waitress” schtick don’t even realize where it comes from. I certainly didn’t, for a long time.
I hate surprises. My mother often has the mistaken belief that a surprise is better than the same event as a non-surprise, despite the fact that it often leads to disappointment, or even outright trauma in one case. And if she were to schedule a “surprise” event without my knowing it exists at all, then she’d run the risk that it would clash with plans I’d already made.
Just noticed the call letters for that tv station. Subtle, Dave. Very subtle. 🙂
It’s also a wonderful sign of Todd’s sense of humor that Selkie gets that reference and uses it properly. Or maybe that’s Grandpa Theo’s influence?

I just thought it was funny.

thanks!
And add “Well” before the FML…perfect XD

Several station east and west of the Mississippi have the wrong starting letter:
WFAA in Dallas TX and KDKA in Pittsburgh PA come to mind immediately.

Congrats, you actually made me sympathize with Amanda for once. Puns are the worst!
Selkie is just….
PUN-ishing her.
WFML is actually a radio station in Indiana..
Aaahhh….. hmmm. >_>

They are turning into sisters aren’t they? if they survive the next couple of years of one another they will be great friends.
Selkie, you forgot to do this:

(⌐■_■)>⌐■-■
(⌐⌐■■_■■)
YYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
How does Selkie know Catskills resorts comedian tag lines?
That line was repeated in hundreds of movies and TV shows.

The line may have originated in the Borscht Belt, but Shrek was probably the biggest recent use.

That’s where I had been told it was from, except what I heard was “I’m here all week. Try the veal, and tip your waitress.”
Actually, on the second thought, Ace Ventura used almost exactly the same phrasing.
